How I Met Your Mother was not only one of the best sitcoms of the 2000s, it also had some of the most memorable moments and quotable lines. In fact, many scenes have become ingrained in pop culture to this day.

Whether it's through memes, clips, or fans forever quoting lines from scenes or referencing them at just the right time, there are plenty of scenes that fans can't get out of their heads.

The success of the show was largely due to the talented ensemble cast that all went through amazing character arcs, but also the clever writing that made so many moments stay with viewers years after they watched the episodes.

The Slap-Bet Slaps

It's easy to remember the various scenes pertaining to the topic of the slap bet because not only were they hilarious, but the bet became a long-running joke that was revisited several times over through the rest of the series' run.

It all began when Barney lost a bet with Marshall about a lie Robin was keeping. Upon losing, Barney chose to have five slaps delivered at any point during the future instead of all at once. Before the ink was dry on the deal, Marshall delivered a fierce slap to Barney's cheek, leaving four more to come, through the series. The final slap was fittingly delivered while Barney was panicking on his wedding day, in an effort to calm him down.

The Pineapple From The Pineapple Incident

HIMYM The Pineapple Incident

From the very first season, this became another long-running joke on the show. It was all about how Ted woke up after a night of debauchery where he got blackout drunk to find a girl in bed with him along with a pineapple on his nightstand.

The moment that he lifted his head and saw the pineapple, with the puzzled look on his face, was classic. It's a scene that is relived over and over again whenever the group discusses "The Pineapple Incident," so it's no surprise that it's one fans can't get out of their heads either.

Reunion With The Slutty Pumpkin

HIMYM Slutty Pumpkin

What was most memorable about this scene was the reveal of the girl behind the slutty pumpkin costume, who turned out to be played by Katie Holmes. Not only that, but the costume really wasn't slutty at all (at least not in Ted's visualization of it for his kids), which makes the fact that she was slut-shamed in the first place pretty puzzling.

Seen in the seventh season in the episode entitled "The Slutty Pumpkin Returns," Ted finally finds the girl he met at the rooftop Halloween party so many years ago. After accidentally losing her number, he made it his mission to find her again, believing she could be "the one." It turns out, however, that there was no chemistry between them.

The Final Scene With The French Horn

Naturally, the very final scene of the series would be one that lives forever in the minds of viewers. It came full circle as well, as it was a throwback from the very first episode, where Ted stole a French Horn from a restaurant because Robin said she liked it, then showed up outside of her apartment with it.

Now, decades later, he is widowed and clearly still has feelings for Robin. Whether fans found it romantic or weird that Ted would be pining for "Aunt Robin" after seemingly being married to the love of his life for so many years, the scene is one that sticks with fans.

Robin Sparkles Let's Go To The Mall Music Video

One of the biggest and funniest reveals in the series was about Robin's past. While she was constantly mocked for being Canadian (fun fact: the actor who plays her, Cobie Smulders, is indeed Canadian), her heritage helped her keep a dark secret from her friends.

It turns out that back in Canada, Robin was a pop star for some time who had a few hit songs, one of which was called "Let's Go To The Mall." Chances are fans probably hear this song and recall flashes from the music video whenever they gather with friends to go shopping.

Marshall Finds Out About His Father's Death

Marshall hugs Lily and cries in How I Met Your Mother

Arguably the most emotional scene of the entire series was when Marshall found out that his father had died. His look of sadness, breaking down in tears along with Lily's terrified and anguished face in having to break the news to him was all so much.

Marshall's reaction – saying "I'm not ready for this" – is something to which anyone who has lost a parent or someone close to them in their life can relate. It was a moment that was not only seen but felt deeply by viewers.

The Woo Girls

It's virtually impossible for fans of the show to go out, especially with girlfriends, and not remember this scene, especially when hearing one another scream "woo!" loudly while at a strip club, night club, concert, or other events.

In this episode, Robin and Lily go to a birthday party for Lily's co-worker where they realize that she is a "Woo girl." What's that? It's a single girl who lives to go out partying and constantly shouts "woo!" at everything she does. Most people didn’t think of this as being a thing until this episode. And now, fans can't get the scene out of their heads whenever they encounter some woo girls in real life.

The Musical Sequence

Love it or hate it, the musical episode of How I Met Your Mother contains some scenes that fans can't get out of their heads, try as they might. One such scene in the season five episode entitled "Girls Versus Suits" was when Barney started daydreaming about singing about his love for suits. He then broke out into song in the middle of the street, singing a tune called "Nothing Suits Me Like A Suit."

It was the series' 100th episode, so it's no surprise creators wanted to make it special. The scene featured 65 dancers, all in suits, accompanied by a 50-piece orchestra.

Introduction Of The Bro Code

How I Met Your Mother Bro Code

The scene where Barney introduces his friends to his book, The Bro Code, is like watching an intense dramatic film where the protagonist is about to reveal scrolls with ancient secrets. The book is really just a collection of friendship rules that suggest that guys always have to look after one another, and their faithfulness to one another should always come over and above any female.

It's a book of warped ethics essentially designed to cater to Barney's promiscuous lifestyle and protect him from any and all harm. Nonetheless, not only was the scene a memorable one, it was so popular, it resulted in a version of the fictional book actually being made. To date, it remains a great gag gift for How I Met Your Mother fans and perpetual playboys.

Unofficially Meeting The Mother

Every moment on the series led up to the one pivotal moment, which was when Ted finally met the mother, Tracy. And while the actual meeting was anti-climactic – at Robin and Barney's wedding where she was playing in the wedding band – it was actually the moment they unofficially met that stands out.

They are both sitting on the balconies of their hotel rooms, without realizing the other was just a wall away. Tracy was playing the ukulele that was owned by her ex-boyfriend, who tragically passed away and singing La Vie en Rose. Unbeknownst to her, Ted was behind the wall, listening.
