Marshall and Lily have been an iconic couple ever since How I Met Your Mother premiered in 2005. While these two are great together, neither one of them much of an opportunity to date around. Throughout the course of the show, many characters have been introduced that would have been a great match for both of them.
Robin, Zoey, and Stella are just a few characters that could have been perfect for Marshall, had he not always been in a relationship with Lily. Keep reading to find out who else Marshall should have been with.
Robin
It's a shame that these two never gave a romantic relationship a shot, considering how much they have in common. Both of these characters are loyal, driven, and passionate. Not to mention they're best friends and close friendships often make the best foundation for romantic relationships.
We can definitely see Marshall taking things slow with Robin and making it work with her the first time around - unlike Ted.
Tracy
Tracy may have ended up being The Mother, but truthfully, she would have been a better match for Marshall. This character is confident, put together, and mature - all things Marshall looks for in a partner.
While Lily often displayed these traits, she never embodied them quite like Tracy did. Tracy never would have left Marshall for San Fransicso or hid her hefty credit card debt from him.
Karen
Marshall isn't Karen's biggest fan, but opposites attract and these two definitely have opposing personalities. This pair never dated but a season two episode hinted that Karen had feelings for Marshall.
While Karen was a bad influence on Ted, she would have been a much better-suited love interest for his best friend. Marshall is both modest and earnest, two qualities that would have balanced out Karen's personality perfectly.
Victoria
Victoria was the one that got away. Ted and Victoria gave a relationship a shot several times throughout the series but it always took a backseat to Ted and Robin's relationship.
Victoria deserved better - she deserved Marshall Eriksen. He would have been faithful to her and he would have made a long-distance relationship work. Both of these characters are pure of heart and together they could have been a match made in heaven.
Zoey
There is no doubt that Zoey would have been a great match for Marshall. Both of these characters are passionate about making a change for the better in the world.
Zoey's an activist who always stands up for what she believes in and Marshall's an environmental lawyer who dreams of one day saving the planet. Together, these two would have been the dream team.
Patrice
Patrice is a fan-favorite character so it would have been great to see her pair up with Marshall, a fellow fan-favorite character. Of course, in season eight, viewers witnessed Barney and Patrice get together. However, it was all just a ploy designed for Barney to win Robin back.
It would have been great to see Patrice find true love and that could have been found with Marshall. They're both such kind-hearted characters that they just make sense together.
Quinn
While Barney and Quinn were good together, Quinn would have a been a better-suited love interest for Marshall. Quinn was a mature and independent character that Barney just wasn't ready for. He simply couldn't set aside his own insecurities to make things work with Quinn.
Marshall, on the other hand, is constantly supportive and always ready for commitment. These two could have really gone the distance.
Stella
Stella is another mature character who would have been perfect for Marshall. Lily put Marshall through quite a bit of turmoil due to her own selfish and immature choices. Regardless, Marshall was always there for Lily and was willing to work through anything.
Marshall was a great catch who deserved better. We can definitely see this pair having a healthy, thriving relationship.
Nora
It's no secret that Marshall has a great relationship with his mom and tends to gravitate towards characters who display similar nurturing qualities.
In season seven, Barney realized that Nora was alarmingly similar to his mother. It wouldn't be the biggest surprise if Marshall was attracted to Nora due to these qualities. It would have been great to see Nora and Marshall give a relationship a shot. Who knows? They could have been perfect together.
Jeanette
Since Lily was Marshall's first serious girlfriend, Marshall never had the chance to play the field. He really didn't get to experience different types of relationships.
Jeanette is known for being a little crazy but this kept her and Ted's relationship interesting. It would have been entertaining for fans to see Marshall navigate this kind of relationship for the first time - and who better to experience it with than Jeanette?
