The main characters on How I Met Your Mother might not find themselves in life or death situations on a regular basis, as they tend to focus on their friendship, love lives, careers, and hanging out at MacLaren's Pub. But if Ted and his friends and two main love interests participated in the Squid Game, some of them seem like they could do very well.
The combination of deadly children's games and scary guards who watch the players' every move makes for an unnerving viewing experience. And if Ted, Marshall, Robin, Barney, Lily, and Tracy were to take part in this dangerous game, it's easy to figure out who would be crowned the winner.
Tracy McConnell
HIMYM fans debate Ted's love interests Tracy and Robin as he truly loves both of them, and it's tragic learning about Tracy's death. The sweetest characters are definitely going to find the Squid Game tough, as they will feel too much compassion for the other people who are being killed or in danger.
Many characters die during "Red Light, Green Light" as they get scared and move without even thinking. It's easy to imagine this happening to Tracy, and since she seems like a very sensitive and caring person, she would hate participating in this.
Ted Mosby
Although Ted is the show's main character, Ted isn't always a good friend, but he has many positive qualities. Ted is caring, intelligent, friendly, social, and optimistic. However, it's Ted's hopeful belief that things will always get better that will result in his death.
At first, Ted might think that he could win the Squid Game, as he is a confident architect who would have fun carving the honeycomb toffee. But by the time he makes it to the glass bridge, he might get scared, realizing that he can't figure out how to get across. Ted will do his best to help the people around him and will try to keep everyone's spirits up, but he'll realize that it's a lost cause after seeing too many fellow players die.
Marshall Eriksen
Thanks to Marshall's belief in supernatural creatures, he might be the quirkiest How I Met Your Mother character, and Marshall would definitely emerge as a leader in the Squid Game. It would be fascinating watching this character get involved in this deadly situation, as Marshall would alternate between being totally terrified of what's going on and feeling confident that he can make it through.
Like Gi-hun, Marshall would have trouble killing his best friend, as Marshall is all about having compassion and loyalty for the people who he's close to. Marshall would also have an advantage because he has a childlike personality that would allow him to become invested in the children's games. From carving a shape into honeycomb toffee to "Red Light, Green Light," Marshall would do his best to focus and would have a high chance of winning.
Robin Scherbatsky
Robin is a perfect sitcom character as she's quirky but tough, hilarious but serious when necessary, and also has a fun backstory of being a former pop singer.
Robin is quick-witted and she has to think on her feet and exude confidence through her job as a TV reporter. Robin would do especially well in the marble game, as she could distract her partner and grab all their marbles, and since she's used to standing in a studio for a long time, she would do well in "Red Light, Green Light" as well. Robin would also have the physical strength that's needed to win the Tug of War game. While Robin's job is, of course, not a matter of life or death, she does struggle sometimes and doesn't always like what she's doing, so she seems used to being put in uncomfortable situations.
Lily Aldrin
Lily might seem like she's super sweet at first glance, but she has a darker side that Marshall, Robin, Barney, and Ted see once they get to know her. When Lily was in high school, she was tough and even bullied people, and she would bring those qualities to the Squid Game. Because Lily has debt, she also has more motivation than the other characters to win the prize money.
When Lily makes mistakes on HIMYM, she's often selfish and focused on what she wants, like when she leaves Marshall behind to go to art school. Lily could apply the same self-centered attitude to the Squid Game and she would have no problem lying or tricking someone if it meant that she could get ahead.
Barney Stinson
Barney changes on HIMYM and marries Robin and becomes a father. But no matter what, Barney great at planning and strategizing, and that would ultimately allow him to win the Squid Game.
When Barney is navigating the dating scene, he can be problematic and too aggressive, but if he applied his focus and desire to winning here, he could do well in each game. Part of succeeding here is staying calm and if someone is super brave, they could talk to the guards and try to get some kind of advantage. If anyone could do that from this popular sitcom, it would be Barney.
