WARNING: Spoilers for Superman & Lois season 3, episode 3

Somehow, Bruno Mannheim got his hands on Clark’s blood in Superman & Lois. In Superman & Lois season 3, episode 3, titled “In Cold Blood”, an untold amount of it was discovered to be in Mannheim’s possession. Apparently, Superman’s blood is the secret of Intergang’s operations in Metropolis.

Just as the Superman & Lois season 2 finale suggested, Chad L. Coleman’s Bruno Mannheim is shaping up to be the show’s next big bad. Since the season 3 premiere, Clark and Lois have been aware of Mannheim’s involvement in illegal scientific experiments. In addition to creating Kryptonite-powered weapons, Mannheim has been giving people like Henry Miller’s Atom-Man real superpowers. Exactly how his scientists were doing it wasn’t clear, but thanks to “In Cold Blood,” the main characters finally have the answer. An examination conducted by the DOD confirmed that Mannheim had access to unknown quantities of Superman’s blood.

Superman & Lois Can Easily Explain Why Bruno Mannheim Has Clark’s Blood

Superman Lois Season 3 Bruno Mannheim

Although this development was treated as a huge shock, the show already has easy ways of explaining it. In Superman & Lois season 2’s “All is Lost,” Clark temporarily lost his abilities after having them siphoned away from Ally Allston. As a result, a powerless Clark was hospitalized and left in the care of the DOD, who drew some of his blood to help him. As acknowledged in the episode, the DOD was only able to get Superman's blood because his skin was no longer impenetrable. If the government secretly kept what they took from Clark, it’s possible that Intergang managed to steal it.

Alternatively, Bizarro could be the reason why Superman & Lois' Intergang has Superman’s blood. As Clark’s Bizzaro World counterpart, his blood could very well be identical to Clark’s. In season 2, Bizarro was killed by Anderson in the Fortress of Solitude. Depending on what happened to Bizarro’s body after his death, it may be that Mannheim’s scientists were able to replicate the blood from his corpse. So even though Superman’s blood may seem impossibly hard to obtain, Bizarro’s body and the incident in “All is Lost” prove that possible explanations for Mannheim having it already exist.

Superman & Lois Sets Up Another Character Getting Clark’s Blood

In addition to revealing that Superman’s blood is the catalyst behind Mannheim’s illegal activities in Superman & Lois, the show teased another character becoming Mannheim’s next test subject. When it was agreed that they can’t keep using Henry Miller forever, one of Mannheim’s scientists said that they would need to find someone else they can push further. If they really can achieve better results with people other than Atom-Man, Superman & Lois can use Superman’s blood to introduce even more powerful foes for the Man of Steel to fight as season 3 continues to unfold.
