What should have been a day of joy turned tragic for The Real Housewives of Miami star Alexia Echevarria after she revealed she lost her mother to COVID-19. Alexia took to Instagram to pen a heartwarming tribute to her late mother while revealing that she passed away on what was supposed to be  Alexia's wedding day. Alexia expressed her grief and sadness while also celebrating her mother's life and the trailblazer she was. The returning housewife shared photos showing her followers how much she loved her mother.

Ahead of the new season of RHOM, Alexia is among the names said to be returning to the rebooted franchise. The show originally ran from 2011 to 2013 before being canceled after just three seasons due to low ratings. But with the housewives franchise always evolving, Andy Cohen started teasing the return of Miami on Peacock sometime last year. Fans of the show were elated to see which members of the cast would return. The returning housewives include Alexia, Larsa Pippen, Marysol Patton, and Adriana de Moura. There are a few newbies also said to be joining the show, including Kiki Barth, Nicole Martin, Guerdy Abraira, and Julia Lemigova. Last month, the cast was reportedly spotted filming in the Hamptons.

But it looks like there will be some sad news shared in the new season. Show OG Alexia Echevarria took to Instagram over the week to reveal her mother passed away on the day the RHOM star was scheduled to get married. "Early this morning I lost my mom to the horrible and deadly COVID-19," Alexia revealed in a heartfelt caption. "The last couple of days have been a rollercoaster of emotions for me. I was on the road to marry the man of my dreams when I had to stop everything as my mother became ill." She went on to share how she had high hopes for the day, but things soon turned into a disaster due to her mom's condition. "What was supposed to be the happiest day of my life today has turned out to be the saddest," she added.

With love, Alexia honored her mom's memory by sharing how she put herself through medical school in the 1960s and was a feminist and liberal unafraid of speaking her mind at a time when women were expected to keep quiet. "My mom, Nancy, was a woman of strength and beauty. Over the years I watched how she lived her life, HER WAY," Alexia explained. She was excited to finally wed her fiancé Todd Nepola in a traditional religious ceremony. The couple got engaged in December 2019, about a year and a half after they made their Instagram debut. Nepola, a real estate investor and developer, will be the third marriage for Alexia after her ex-husband, Herman Echevarria, passed away in September 2016.

Alexia also shares two sons with her ex-husband Pedro Rosello, who recently appeared in Netflix's Cocaine Cowboys. Alexia also appeared in the documentary and recalled her relationship with Pedro ahead of his incarceration. The couple divorced in 1996, the same year Pedro testified against drug kingpins Augusto “Willy” Falcon and Salvador “Sal” Magluta. The press Alexia has been getting ahead of her return to The Real Housewives of Miami has been grim, to say the least. But she remains transparent and open, key qualities of a fan-favorite housewife.
