Brandi Redmond from The Real Housewives of Dallas reflected on her past racially insensitive remarks during the season premiere.

Season five of the Bravo reality series premiered Tuesday night with the ladies of Dallas in the midst of the ongoing novel coronavirus. Viewers learned Kameron Westcott lost her dog, Louis, and adopted a new one named Fanci. Fans were also introduced to new full-time housewife Tiffany Moon. While getting reacquainted with the housewives, viewers also saw the aftermath of Brandi dealing with a racially insensitive video that resurfaced.

The mother of three opened up about her struggle with suicidal thoughts after a past racially insensitive Instagram video resurfaced where she appeared to be mocking Asians. "About three and a half years ago, I made a video and posted it on my Instagram," the 42-year-old said in one of her confessionals. "The video was of me making fun of my squinty eyes." In another scene, Brandi is speaking to fellow costar, Stephanie Hollman about the controversial video. "I understand that I hurt people," she admitted. "Honestly, it was stupid and ignorant. I did it in front of my children and it was horrible. I want to be a good example for my children." Stephanie chimed in assuring Brandi that her children know she is a good person and this video was a lapse in judgment. Brandi added how people were calling to cancel her, bringing her to the point of contemplating suicide. "I went away for treatment because I was suicidal. I had so much guilt and shame. I needed help," she said to Stephanie. "I was willing to end my life, because I felt like that's what I should do."

The reality star understands the pain she caused people and revealed she is deeply ashamed of her actions. Later on in the episode, the ladies all met up at Stephanie's mansion for dinner, where Brandi took the opportunity to apologize for her actions. After some time went by, Tiffany pulled Brandi aside to have a heart-t0-heart about the video. The new housewife took this opportunity to let Brandi know her actions were wrong and "in poor taste." Tiffany also opened up to Brandi about her moving to the United States from China at six years old and not being able to speak any English. She revealed children would often make fun of the shape of her eyes. Before Brandi could respond, the episode ended with a "to be continued."

Last year, Brandi shared a video on her Instagram revealing she checked into a wellness center and apologized again for the insensitive video posted in 2017. Later that month, she called the experience "life-changing" and explained she never meant anything malicious by it. Viewers will have to wait until next week to see how Brandi will respond to Tiffany's personal experience with racism.
