Gregg Leakes, the husband of The Real Housewives of Atlanta alum NeNe Leakes, lost his battle to cancer on Wednesday, September 1. The famed Atlanta husband was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer in 2018 and later went into remission after six months of chemotherapy treatments. A devastated NeNe confirmed in June that Gregg's cancer had returned. The RHOA alum recently gave an update on the status of Gregg's health at her nightclub, The Linnethia.

When patrons accused NeNe of acting rudely, the star announced her family was stressed at home because Gregg was dying. "My husband is transitioning to the other side,” NeNe said that evening. She continued, "I’d love for everybody to pray for Gregg. That would be beautiful. Pray for his strength and pray for me too." After sharing the heartbreaking news, the reality star later shared that she was "broken" in an Instagram post. NeNe's former RHOA castmates rallied behind the Leakes family with messages of support. "Even through all our ups and downs, Gregg never treated me differently--he was always kind and respectful," RHOA star Kenya Moore wrote on Instagram. Costar Cynthia Bailey wrote to NeNe, "Sending you and your family love, support and prayers."

"After a long battle with cancer, Gregg Leakes has passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by all of his children, very close loved ones and wife NeNe Leakes." The rep asked that fans give the family privacy during this time. “We ask that you pray for peace and strength over their family and allow them to mourn in private during this very, very difficult time,” the statement read.

The news of Gregg's passing comes after his son, Brentt, 22, posted an emotional message to his Instagram Story. "Spend time with your loved ones every chance you get," NeNe's son wrote. "Time is so…valuable dog. I can’t express it. I’m learning the hard way watching my dad fight every day. Please go create memories with ya people.

NeNe and Gregg's love story has been quite the journey up until Gregg's final days. The pair married in 1997, divorced in 2011, then remarried to the delight of fans in 2013. Their love for one another was always evident on The Real Housewives of Atlanta and off-screen. With Gregg's tragic passing, NeNe will have to prepare for the next chapter without her longtime partner.
