Word Racers is officially the latest new game to be added to the Houseparty smartphone app. This not only marks the latest game to join the social-based video service, but it is also the first game released by Houseparty in 2020. Word Racers offers yet another way for users to engage with each other while video chatting within the app.
Houseparty is one of the few apps that instantly became more well-known and used, following the COVID-19 outbreak and the stay-at-home orders that forced many to download new apps for the first time. While Zoom was another of the apps that suddenly shot to prominence in recent months, Houseparty has positioned itself as more of a fun option for those looking to video chat with friends and family. One of the best examples of this is the app's additional features, such as the selection of multiplayer games.
Building on the success of its previous games, Houseparty has now confirmed the launch of its latest gaming option, Word Racers. In addition to being announced, the new game is already live in the latest version of the app, and offers users another word-based way to pass the time during a video call. Similar to the other Houseparty games, Word Racers requires at least one additional person to play.
Getting Started With Houseparty’s Word Racers
Word Racers is a game where users race each other to see who can come up with the most words from a predetermined set of letters. Each game consists of three rounds and each round lasts ninety second per player. During this time, the player will be presented with eight letters that can be used to form a single eight-letter word. Besides figuring out the main eight-letter word, players can build up additional points by forming any words that use a minimum of three of the letters, with the amount of points awarded determined by the length of the word.
Users can swipe from letter to letter to form the word, and none of the letters can be used more than once in the same word. In addition, there are bonus points available for being the first in each round to get a word with a minimum of five letters, six letters, and so on. Once the game is finished, the winner is the one with the most points at the end of all three rounds.
For those totally new to Houseparty games, accessing them is fairly simple to do. Once the app is launched, tap on the “dice” icon at the top of the screen and this will then highlight the various games on offer, including the all-new Word Racers. Once a game is selected, the user will be prompted to invite other Houseparty smartphone app users to join the game.
