WARNING: SPOILERS ahead for House of Wax.

Summary

  • The trend of remaking classic horror films in the 2000s generally fell short of the originals, with films like The Fog failing to live up to the 1980 version.
  • The 2010 remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street is considered one of the worst horror franchise remakes.
  • Jared Padalecki's character Wade in House of Wax is gruesomely killed by Vincent, one of the Sinclair brothers, who turns his victims into wax figures for their creepy museum in Ambrose.

The 2005 remake of House Of Wax featured some gruesome kills, but none were more horrific than the death of Jared Padalecki's character Wade. During the 2000s, major Hollywood studios got into the habit of diving deep into their vaults to remake several of their classic horror films including The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Omen, and The Hitcher. While some of these films were fairly well-received, they typically couldn't hold a candle to the originals. 2005's The Fog, for example, failed to scratch the surface of the celebrated 1980 original.

This horror remake trend seemed to reach a stopping point with 2010's A Nightmare On Elm Street, which is commonly considered one of the worst remakes of any horror franchise. The first film version of House of Wax premiered back in 1933 as the thriller Mystery Of The Wax Museum based on the short story "The Wax Works" by Charles S. Belden. It was remade again with 1953's House Of Wax, a 3D horror film starring Vincent Price and Charles Bronson. The most notable actors in 2005's House of Wax include Paris Hilton and Jared Padalecki, whose character Wade experienced the worst death in the movie by far.

Why Jared Padalecki's Wade Was Turned Into A Wax Figure In House Of Wax

Jared Padalecki's character Wade is a wax figure in House Of Wax

Padalekci plays Wade in 2005's House of Wax, the boyfriend of Carly (Elisha Cuthbert) who wanders off on his own in the ghost town of Ambrose. The group of friends were on their way to a football game and spent a night camping in the woods when they were disturbed by a stranger in a truck. They wake up and realize that someone messed with their car and the group is forced to go into the nearby town of Ambrose to take it to a mechanic. They are enticed by the only interesting thing in the ghost town, a wax museum, and enter to kill time as they wait for their car to get fixed.

This turns out to be part of the Sinclair brothers' plan to lure passerby travelers into Ambrose and murder them. Most of the killing is done by the horrifying Vincent, who wears a wax mask to hide his identity. Vincent attacks Wade, severing his Achilles tendon and knocking him out. Vincent then drags Wade to his wax museum, where he paralyzes him with an injection. Wade is still conscious and aware as Vincent cuts off his clothes, waxes all the hair off his body, and sews up his wounds. The conscious Wade is then placed in a chair and is covered head to toe in scalding wax.

Wade's Death In House Of Wax Explained

House of Wax 2005

Wade was added to the collection of other wax figures in Trudy Sinclair's wax museum. The Sinclair brothers of Bo, Lester, and Vincent have an operation of turning their victims into wax figures that they add to their creepy wax museum in Ambrose. The museum was once owned by their mother Trudy before her death. Trudy had given Vincent a mask to wear to hide his facial deformities that resulted from an operation he had as a child. Vincent and Bo were born conjoined at birth with Vincent's face attached to the back of Bo's head.

Vincent has been emotionally and verbally abused by Bo his entire life. It was initially Bo's idea to get Vincent to cover their victims with wax so they could continue their mother's tradition and enhance the museum with extremely lifelike figures. This is why Jared Padalecki's Wade was killed so grotesquely in House of Wax, as it was the typical routine for all the Sinclair brothers' victims.
