House of the Dragon season 2 talked about reversing one major character death, an actor hints. The House of the Dragon season 1 finale saw Lucerys Velaryon, Rhaenyra Targaryen's second son, sent to Storm’s End as an emissary and is surprised to find Aemond Targaryen there as well. Lucerys flees on his dragon, Arrax, but is devoured by the monstrous Vhagar. Rhaenyra is devastated upon receiving the news of her son's death, and her enraged expression promises plenty more fire and blood to come in House of the Dragon season 2.

However, it appears House of the Dragon season 2 considered reversing Luke's death, as suggested by actor Elliot Grihault. Appearing at a recent Comic Con event in England, Grihault was asked about the possibility of Lucerys surviving and returning in season 2. He responded, "Yeah, I tried. We tried… Oh well. I can’t say," suggesting there was some discussion about Lucerys surviving, which is confidential information Grihault isn't allowed to discuss publicly. House of the Dragon Season 2 Is Right Not To Reverse Lucerys' Death

Aemond Targaryen looking shocked in House of the Dragon season 1 finale

House of the Dragon season 2 was likely never serious about reversing Lucerys' death. It seems like Grihault wanted to return to the show, but there was probably never an actual discussion amongst showrunner Ryan Condal and his team of writers. In George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood and the show, which has been a faithful adaptation of the book so far, Luke's death is the catalyst that sparks the Targaryen civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons. In the immediate future, Rhaenyra and Daemon will seek retribution against the Greens for Luke's death.

It's understandable House of the Dragon season 2 may have had a brief discussion about Luke's fate since it's not actually conclusive in the book. Luke's body is never found and some likely fabricated accounts of history claim he survived the fall, but lost all his memories and lived the rest of his life as a fisherman. As seen in the show, Lucerys was swallowed whole by Vhagar, which is why his body is never found. House of the Dragon is right not to reverse his death since it would undermine the emotional impact of the season 1 finale.
