Warning: This list contains spoilers for this season and potential spoilers for future seasons of House of the Dragon. With season 1 of House of the Dragon wrapping up, audiences will have to wait a long time before they get to see what happens next in the Targaryen civil war. Thankfully, unlike A Song of Ice and Fire, the events of the "Dance of Dragons" have been fully finished and covered in George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood book.

That means the major happenings are all known and can come to life on the screen as they were written on the page. It's unclear how many seasons House of the Dragon will be but a few events seem likely to go down in the next batch of episodes.

Blood & Cheese

House Of The Dragon Helaena Targaryen and Daemon Targaryen

Lucerys' death is the point of no return that really kickstarts the Dance of Dragons but things get taken up a notch soon. Daemon vowed vengeance for his wife's son and enlisted the help of two men known only as Blood and Cheese. They sneak into the Red Keep and bound Alicent while waiting for Queen Helaena.

Blood and Cheese force Helaena to choose which of her sons should die and eventually, she selects Maelor since Jaehaerys is the oldest and the heir. Instead, Blood brutally murders Jaehaerys, which eventually sends Helaena into a depression as she can't even look at Maelor knowing she picked him to die.

The Dragonseeds

Another main plot point of the season 1 finale saw Daemon name the dragons on each side of the war. He mentioned several that are unclaimed so Jacaerys calls out to the Dragonseeds, offering knighthood and wealth to anyone who could claim a dragon.

Many were killed and injured trying but eventually they were claimed. Seasmoke went to Addam of Hull (an apparent bastard of either Laenor or Corlys), Silverwing to Ulf the White, Vermithor to a bastard named Hugh Hammer, and Sheepstealer to a small young female bastard known as Nettles.

Two New Hands For The Realm

Lord Corlys sits at the Small Council in House of the Dragon

Otto Hightower is among the most cunning people in Westeros history, having schemed to make his daughter the queen and position his grandsons as the heirs to the Iron Throne. He did all of this as Hand of the King and even returned after Viserys initially fired him.

It isn't the last time Otto is let go from his position. Some of his moves test the patience of King Aegon II, who dismisses his grandfather and names Ser Criston Cole his new Hand. Meanwhile, Jacaerys names Corlys Velaryon the Hand of the Queen to his mother Rhaenyra.

Rhaenys' Death

Eve Best as Rhaenys Targaryen in House of the Dragon episode 9

"The Queen Who Never Was" Rhaenys Targaryen quickly became a fan favorite, especially given how she escaped King's Landing on her dragon Meleys. She is set to play a key part in the early stages of the Dance of Dragons.

Rhaenys, while riding Meleys, helps carry out an attack but it proves to be a trap as Aegon II and Aemond show up on their dragons. Rhaeyns fights them and all three dragons are downed, with Rhaenys and Meleys dying. Rhaenyranot sending her own sons upsets Corlys but being named Hand of the Queen keeps him around.

King Aegon's Injury

Aemond behind Aegon in House of the Dragon

The Battle at Rook's Rest proves to be a costly one beyond taking the life of Rhaenys. During the fight, Meleys bites down on Sunfyre's (Aegon II's dragon) neck and they crash into Vhagar, sending all three plummeting to the ground.

While Aemond and Vhagar come out well enough and Rhaenys and Meleys die, Aegon II breaks several bones and is severely burned. Sunfyre also has a wing ripped off of its body. The injuries to Aegon II keep him in bed for a long time, with Aemond assuming the role of Protector of the Realm.

Erryk Vs. Arryk

Elliott Tittensor as Erryk Cargyll and Luke Tittensor as Arryk Cargyll in House of The Dragon

Although they didn't get a ton of screen time in season 1, fans have taken notice of Arryk and Erryk, the Cargyll twins. Arryk is one of the members of the Kingsguard to side with Aegon II, while Erryk declares for Rhaenyra.

A plan is hatched for Arryk to infiltrate Dragonstone under the guise of Erryk, though his ultimate plan is unclear. Either way, the two cross paths on Dragonstone and fight to the death. Accounts differ on how it went down, with some saying it was quick and others claiming it was an epic, poetic clash where they professed their love for each other before dying.

Jacaerys' Death Sends Rhaenyra Over The Edge

Harry Collett as Jacaerys Velaryon in House Of The Dragon's Season 1 Finale

For a lot of the Dance of Dragons, Jacaerys proves to be a valuable member of the Blacks. It even reaches a point where he arranges for his brothers Aegon the Younger and Viserys to be sent to Pentos to remain safe.

Unfortunately, the ship transporting them is attacked and Aegon manages to escape on his dragon. When Jacaerys finds out, he and the Dragonseeds fly out for revenge but his dragon is downed and he gets killed by quarrels. This added grief sends Rhaenyra over the edge.

King's Landing Is Seized

Rhaenyra The Black Queen on House of the Dragon

The season 1 finale saw Rhaenyra say that she doesn't want to simply attack with dragons because all they leave behind is ashes. She maintains that thought process for most of the Dance of Dragons, especially since she loses so much.

However, Jacaerys dying causes Rhaenyra to use her dragons. With the likes of Aemond and his dragon Vhagar away, she takes King's Landing and sits on the Iron Throne, though it isn't exactly how her father hoped it would've happened. She also becomes incredibly paranoid during this time.

Criston Cole Dies

Aemond and Vhagar aren't the only notable characters away from King's Landing when Rhaenyra takes the city. Ser Criston Cole is also away with them but they end up going their separate ways as Criston leads a group to the South.

This leads to an ambush by the river lords and Criston knows his group is in trouble so he requests single combat. He gets denied and arrows rain down upon him, killing him in what becomes known as the Butcher's Ball.

Larys Helps Smuggle Aegon II Out

Larys Strong stares at Alicent's feet in HOTD episode 9

Rhaenyra taking King's Landing is far from the end of the Dance of Dragons though. Given the show's popularity though, much of that can be saved for season 3, including the famous Battle Above God's Eye. Part of why the war keeps going is because Aegon II lives.

Though Rhaenyra sits on the throne, Larys Strong manages to smuggle Aegon II, Prince Maelor, and Princess Jaehaera out and lead them to safety. That move sets things up for the future of the war.
