Jared Leto's House Of Gucci makeup took three and a half hours to apply every day, according to an MGM studio exec. Leto is currently appearing in Ridley Scott's newest film along side other superstars such as Lady Gaga, Adam Driver, Al Pacino and Jeremy Irons. The film follows the true story of Patrizia Reggiani, an outsider who marries into the famed Gucci family of Italian fashion designers, triggering a spiral of betrayal, revenge, and eventually murder.

In House Of Gucci, Leto portrays the character of Paolo Gucci. Leto himself is known for the massive transformations he undergoes for many of his roles, particularly as Rayon in Dallas Buyers Club and as The Joker in David Ayer's 2016 Suicide Squad. Leto's portrayal of Gucci, however, leaves the actor almost unrecognizable. To take on the real-life character, Leto donned both a fat suit and copious amounts of prosthetics to make him look both balding and significantly older than himself.

In a recent interview with THR, MGM executive Pamela Abdy revealed that during the shoot, Leto (who is a friend of hers) would send the production team pictures of himself in his Paolo makeup, and tell Abdy and fellow producers "how long it took to get ready every day." According to the exec, Leto would spend around "three and a half hours" in each makeup session becoming Paolo Gucci. The hard work clearly shows, as some viewers may actually miss Leto in the House Of Gucci trailer if they don't already know its him.

While the actor's makeup in the film is certainly impressive, Leto's portrayal of Paolo Gucci was met with very mixed reviews when the House Of Gucci trailer was first released. Many fans took to Twitter to express their opinions, with some expressing admiration for the detailed transition, while others seemed more upset that the actor (who is considered by many to be quite attractive) was sporting a look that may not be thought traditionally handsome. Even Patrizia Gucci, the grandchild of Guccio Gucci himself, has expressed her dislike of Leto's look, along with many other issues she sees in Scott's portrayal of her family.

Despite the mixed reviews to Leto's portrayal, it seems the Academy Award-winning actor is once again going all in for his performance. Since it has opened, House Of Gucci has faced backlash and met with some mixed critic reviews. However, the film seems to have had some more success with general audiences. Whether or not House of Gucci manages to live up to its hype, it is likely that the star-studded cast will manage to bring some impressive moments to the screen, especially considering Leto's dramatic transformation. Ultimately, audiences will have to decide for themselves when they catch House Of Gucci in theatres, and if they look very closely, they may even be able to spot Leto behind all of that makeup.
