The first teaser for the Hotel Transylvania TV series has arrived. It’s a common move in the entertainment industry to bring a TV series to the big screen, but from time to time some movies take their universes to the small screen. Limitless, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Ash vs. Evil Dead are just a few examples of movies that have gotten the TV adaptation treatment – some more successful than others, of course.

Sony Pictures Animation has been working on an animated TV series based on the film Hotel Transylvania. This series was announced prior to the release of Hotel Transylvania 2, which left some skeptical about its future, but after the sequel proved to be a box office success, the studio continued with the project and the first teaser has been released.

The teaser is very simple: Mavis (Dracula’s teenage daughter) and her monster friends create chaos at Dracula’s hotel for monsters. Unlike the films, the series is in 2D animation and features a younger Mavis, as its set before the events in the first Hotel Transylvania film. Although it doesn’t reveal much about the plot, fans of the film can rest assured that the essence of the film won’t be lost and there will still be some classic monsters included, such as the mummy and Frankenstein’s creature.

Hotel Transylvania Animated Series

The series will follow the teenage years of Mavis and her friends – Hank N Stein, Pedro, and Wendy Blob – at her father’s hotel. While Dracula is away on “official vampire business”, Mavis and company have the place for themselves… and Aunt Lydia, Dracula’s older sister, who does her best to push more order and tradition at the hotel. Hotel Transylvania: The Series will have 26 episodes of 22 minutes each.

According to the press release, beginning Sunday, June 4th, and until the premiere of the series on June 25th, three shorts will be released on the Disney Channel app and Disney Channel YouTube. Said short stories will follow Mavis and her dad as he prepares to join the Vampire Council.

Hotel Transylvania: The Series will make the wait for Hotel Transylvania 3 a bit more bearable for fans, as the third film is scheduled for a 2018 release. It will be interesting to explore the lives of Mavis and Dracula before Jonathan (and subsequently Dennis) arrived, but it’s going to be especially entertaining to see how Mavis’ relationship is with other family members, as we have only met her dad and grandfather until now. Hopefully the series will be better received by the critics than the films, and the audience will welcome it as well as they have done with both films.

Hotel Transylvania: The Series will premiere on Disney Channel on Sunday, June 25th at 8pm ET/PT with new episodes airing every night at the same hour through Thursday, June 29th. It will air in its regular timeslot beginning Sunday, July 9th at 8:30 pm ET/PT. The first episode will be available on the Disney Channel app, YouTube, and VOD on Tuesday, June 20th.
