There are already all kinds of movies about famous monsters like Dracula, the Frankenstein monster, the Invisible Man, and The Mummy, three of the main characters in the Hotel Transylvania franchise. That's why movies lampooning these characters work so well, there's lots of material to use.

There are several other characters in the film that we don't know as well, however, and they have some interesting stories to tell. Some were created specifically for the series while others are derived from stories much older than even the Count himself. Here are ten characters from Hotel Transylvania that could carry their own franchise.

Winnie

The Wolfman is already a character in several feature films, tv shows, and books, but Winnie's in a class by herself. She actually saves the day in the first movie but we barely notice at first.

Even from a young age, it was easy to pick her out from her more than 300 siblings. She's got dreams of running a company when she's not serving imaginary tea and dead pigeons to her zing, Dennis. This clever little werewolf isn't afraid to stand up for herself, either, as she shows some bullies who are hassling Dennis. The story of how Winnie becomes a powerful CEO would be an interesting one that could take up a few movies.

Jonathan

Jonathan excitedly stretches out his arms in front of Mavis

It seems that Jonathan walked into Hotel Transylvania in the middle of his own movie. We get some idea of the extent of Jonathan's travels in the first film, like when he talks about visiting music festivals in Hawaii or the castle of LuBov.

This was what initially drew Mavis to him, as she had practically been cloistered in the Hotel for most of her life, so meeting a world traveler like him opened her mind. Movies about Mavis' and adventures with Jonathan before Dennis was born would also be really interesting.

Ericka Van Helsing

It seems that every time someone tries to start a Van Helsing franchise, it falls flat. Why not give Ericka a try? Her childhood as a Van Helsing must be compelling, and talented voice actor Kathryn Hahn makes her both interesting and sympathetic. What happened to her parents? What was growing up on the ship like? What other adventures did she have before successfully breaching the innermost sanctum of Atlantis?

She's distinctly different from her ancestors in a number of ways, one being that she's doesn't hate monsters. How would that work out for future films?

The Kraken

How do you go from fighting the legendary Perseus to a lounge singer for a cruise line? What really happened to Atlantis? That could yield a few interesting storylines for several feature films.

As one of the oldest monsters on this list, the Kraken probably has a few things to say about the Fall of the Roman Empire or the Age of Exploration. If monsters Dracula and The Mummy can tell their stories then why can't the Kraken, one of the most fearsome and famous monsters since ancient times?

Tinkles

Puppy! Hotel Transylvania

We're not exactly sure what Tinkles is. He looks like a dog, except he's huge, he can mimic a good human voice, and he's inexplicably good at fooling people by using simple disguises.

In some ways he's a normal pet dog, sniffing out threats and playing a bit too rough, but in other ways, he's a superhero of sorts, like helping Ericka save Dracula was nobody else was sure about her motives. Where did he come from, what is he exactly, and why did Count Dracula think he would make a good pet for his grandson? All questions that could be answered in a series of movies.

Martha of LuBov

Dracula and Martha in Hotel Transylvania

This name might be unfamiliar at first, partly because this character appears only very briefly in the franchise and even then only in flashbacks and memories. Martha was Mavis' mother. Her tragic and violent death at the hands of an angry human mob prompt Count Dracula to build Hotel Transylvania, not only to keep his infant daughter safe but also to provide a sanctuary for other monsters.

Martha has a huge influence on the plot even without her presence. What was her past like? We only know that she met Dracula the night they collided and met, but who was she before Count Dracula? She was a vampire herself, and just as immortal as Dracula, and you can't help but wonder what she was doing in the centuries before that fateful night.

Mavis

Mavis has a lot of great stories to tell, and we're not just thinking of the years growing up in Hotel Transylvania. Being Dracula's daughter would have some ups and downs, definitely enough to spawn a whole series of movies.

There is already a Canadian-American cartoon series about teenage Mavis and her friends and their adventures, which goes to show that there's a lot of material and potential here. A movie could contain more exposition relating to her mother and earlier years in the hotel. She's also a fan favorite, which means any movies about her would already have a dedicated following.

The Witches

In the first two movies, they were simply part of the housekeeping staff, but they still made us laugh with their quirky antics. By the third film, a group of three has formed as part of the group that goes on vacation. This could be a callback to the ancient Norns, a group of three old women who guarded ancient secrets and had the power of prophecy.

That could make a few good films. In fact, it already has, if you think about every time a group of "three witches" appears in literature or movies. Each one has a distinct look but all three of them are openly infatuated with Vlad, Dracula's father, so a franchise about the Witches might give some insight into the Dracula family's past.

Bela the Gargoyle

It's a small part in the second movie, but the talented Ron Wriggle brings this character to life and even makes him interesting enough to have his own story. Anyone so close to Vlad the impaler for so long must have some interesting stories to tell. Was he there when Vlad visited those ancient Egyptian princesses?

Why does he hate humans so much? What happened to him after Vlad shrank him to doggie-toy size and banished him? All of this could be great material for another movie.

Dennis

Hotel Transylvania 2 - Adam Sandler as Dracula

Dennis might end up being the main character of this franchise, but his childhood adventures could easily support a whole series of movies. It would also be an interesting subject for television or comic books with his transformation into a vampire as the starting point. The "Dhampir," "Daywalker" or half-vampire creature is relatively new to our mythology. The creature has a prominent place in today's pop culture, appearing as Adrian Van Tepes in the Castlevania series or as Vampire Hunter D in the classic anime. Dennis could lampoon these modern characters the same way that Dracula and the Wolfman make fun of vintage monsters.
