Hotel Transylvania 4 Gets December 2021 Release

Hotel Transylvania 3 characters

The hit franchise, Hotel Transylvania has another installment coming with the announcement of Hotel Transylvania 4 to be released in December 2021. Produced by Columbia and Sony Pictures Animation, the computer-animated comedy film series became wildly successful after the premiere of its first film, Hotel Transylvania in 2012.

Riddled with world famous monsters and voice talents of Hollywood A-listers, Hotel Transylvania follows an ill-fated Dracula (Adam Sandler) whom upon the death of his beloved wife builds a hotel intended as a safe haven for monsters with him and his daughter, Mavis (Selena Gomez), living there full time. Dracula is joined by Frankenstein and his bride (Kevin James and Fran Drescher), a werewolf, the invisible man (David Spade) and a hunchback. Further, Andy Samberg plays the human Jonathan who falls in love with and marries Mavis. Originally created and developed by Todd Durham, the film was the directorial debut of Genndy Tartakovsky, who has a keen eye for translating story to animation with his work in Samurai Jack and Star Wars:Clone Wars.

After becoming a box office smash and earning a Golden Globe nomination for Best Animated Feature Film, Hotel Transylvania hit the ground running and now, after the release of Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation last summer, has a new film in the works. The Hollywood Reporter's Borys Kit reported the news of the monster franchise's return, revealing Hotel Transylvania 4 will hit theaters on Dec. 22, 2021. As of this writing, no further details of Hotel Transylvania 4 have been released, but it is safe to assume that Sandler, Gomez and Sandberg will return to lend their voice talents as well as welcome new monsters with Hollywood elite behind them to the mix.

As Kit makes mention of in his tweet, the third installment of the franchise, Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation was Sony Pictures Animation's biggest hit to date with a box office record of $528.6 million, which Oscar-winning Spider Man: Into the Spider-Verse has not yet reached. It was only a matter of time before the hotel opened its doors once again.

With a release date of late 2021, it would be ideal for the monsters to give in to the holiday spirit with a story revolving around the Christmas season. December is usually a competitive month for film and the previous three films have been released in September and July for Summer success, but maybe what the fourthquel needs is a seasonal twist and holiday decor. Hotel Transylvania 4 also shares the release slot with the highly anticipated musical Wicked by Universal as well as a Disney live-action film yet to be announced. Regardless, the children have spoken of their need for more monsters and Hotel Transylvania 4 will no doubt do well at the box office.
