Gears and Coins in Hot Wheels Unleashed are two different in-game currencies, and those who are after the best versions of every car will need a large stock of both. Luckily, Hot Wheels Unleashed offers a variety of means to get Gears and Coins, so it will not take too long before players have an abundance of both materials. However, it becomes harder to earn both Gears and Coins as more of Hot Wheels Unleashed is completed.
Aside from the cars earned through Rewards in the single-player campaign City Rumble, the majority of cars in Hot Wheels Unleashed can't be earned without Coins. Rewards are dead-end areas of the map that players eventually reach after completing the Quick Races and Time Attacks leading up to them. Players must claim the Rewards to earn cars and a variety of cosmetics used to create custom tracks.
How to Get Coins in Hot Wheels Unleashed
In Hot Wheels Unleashed Coins are used to purchase Blind Boxes, which cost 500 Coins, as well as Quick Race and Time Attack tracks, which cost 300. Blind Boxes can reward any car of any rarity, which can, in turn, be sold for between 300 and 1000 Coins.
Players can get more Coins in Hot Wheels Unleashed by completing the various races and time attacks in City Rumble. Repeating any race from City Rumble or completing quick races will award more Coins as well, giving players 50 Coins for placing first.

How to Get Gears in Hot Wheels Unleashed
Gears in Hot Wheels Unleashed are harder to earn than Coins. Most of the Gears players can earn are in City Rumble, but, unlike Coins, Gears cannot be earned from the same race twice. Gears can also be earned from dismantling cars. Dismantling a Legendary Car like the Batmobile can yield as many as 200 Gears. After completing City Rumble, the best way to get Gears in Hot Wheel Unleashed is by buying Blind Boxes with Coins and dismantling the cars.
Gears play a vital role in improving a car's attributes. While players cannot choose which stats are affected, using Gears to upgrade cars in Hot Wheels Unleashed will increase their rarity and improve their capabilities. Upgrading a car using Gears has a chance to improve one or more of the following stats:
Speed |
Acceleration |
Braking Power |
Handling |
Boost |
Upgrading a car from Common to Rare costs 200 Gears in Hot Wheels Unleashed, and from Rare to Legendary costs 500 Gears. Legendary cars in Hot Wheels Unleashed cannot be upgraded, and if someone earns a duplicate Legendary from a Blind Box, they should dismantle the car for more Gears rather than sell it.
