The countdown is on for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the first new movie from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to release in 2017. The sequel to 2014's box office hit will reunite writer-director James Gunn with the all-star cast of Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper, as the Guardians travel throughout the cosmos to help Peter Quill (Pratt) learn more about his true parentage hinted at in the first film. At the same time, they'll face familiar foes like Yondu Udonta and Nebula, while struggling to keep their newfound family (peacefully) together.
Yet there'll also be a few newcomers to the franchise in the new film, including Chris Sullivan (The Knick, This Is Us) and Kurt Russell (The Hateful Eight). Sullivan will play Taserface, the leader of a mutinous group of the Ravagers. He'll be at odds with Yondu and will no doubt make things a bit more complicated between Quill and his adoptive father. Russell meanwhile is playing Quill's missing father, Ego, an ancient and mysterious cosmic being. This early reveal to the public means that discovering the identity of Quill's father won't be the main focus of the movie. Instead, it'll be the relationship between Yondu, Quill, and Ego.
However, even with Quill's family drama at the forefront, the rest of the Guardians will still be at the center of the story. Of course, there wouldn't be a Guardians of the Galaxy 2 without Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), Groot (Vin Diesel) and Rocket (Bradley Cooper). The characters are also about to become a new set of collectibles from Hot Toys, who previously released figures for the first Guardians movie. They've teased a first look at the new merchandise on their Facebook:
At first glance, Groot is noticeably different from the original movie's collectible, since he's now in his little form as opposed to the previous full grown or baby forms. The rest of the characters have mainly just had a change of clothes, but Gamora is now sporting a leather jacket and pants, rather than the battle outfit she was wearing in the last movie after she rebelled against Ronan the Accuser and Thanos. And Rocket isn't wearing his prison uniform this time around, opting instead for a blue one-piece outfit.
Hot Toys always reveals some of the most anticipated and popular collectibles for film and TV, so this reveal only whets fans' appetites and gets them ready for what's coming in the rest of the year. As always, the craftsmanship is top notch with tons of tiny details. Not much has changed from the previous set, but fans will want to have these newest collectibles to complete their series, especially Baby Groot, who looks adorable. There's no word on a release date yet for the new set.
