Fans of the horror genre won’t have to wait until October to enjoy horror movies, as some of the biggest releases of the year are arriving this summer. The horror genre has been going through a great run in recent years thanks to adaptations of popular works (as is the case of Andy Muschietti’s IT duology), remakes, and original stories as well, such as Jordan Peele’s Get Out and Us. The world of streaming has also offered new platforms for horror movies, especially those that don’t fit the “standard” seen in cinemas, and during the coronavirus pandemic, they have also served as a home to those that couldn’t get a proper theatrical release.

The pandemic heavily impacted the entertainment industry, forcing studios to halt production on movies and TV shows and delay the release of many movies. Among the first horror movies to be delayed due to the pandemic was A Quiet Place II, which will finally see the light in 2021, as studios have embraced the advantages of having streaming platforms through which they can share their movies without much fear of losing in terms of box office numbers, as many streaming services offer the option of paying a fee to watch new releases. However, there are still some movies that will make it to cinemas around the world, while others will have both a theatrical and digital release to make sure no one misses them.
