Close up of a little girl from Exorcist: Believer

As if rebooting one beloved horror cinema franchise wasn’t enough, Halloween 2018’s David Gordon Green is hoping lightning will strike twice with a sequel to 1973’s iconic classic, The Exorcist. Few 2023 scary movies have as many expectations as The Exorcist: Believer and it will be tough for any sequel to recreate the impact of William Friedkin’s terrifying original. However, if anyone can make an Exorcist sequel/reboot work, it’s Green and his Halloween team. The Blumhouse production arrives in October 2023 with a cast that includes Leslie Odom Jr. as a man who is seeking help for a possessed child and original Exorcist star, Ellen Burstyn.

Five Nights at Freddy's

Five Nights at Freddy's has been in development for close to a decade, and the announcement that it would be released in 2023 came as quite a surprise. The movie is based on the popular video game of the same name, which is about a nighttime employee of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, a Chuck E. Cheese's-inspired children's restaurant. The animatronic mascots of the restaurant come to life and kill anyone in the restaurant after midnight. An ax murderer on the poster for Eli Roth's Thanksgiving

After a children's fantasy movie and a documentary, Thanksgiving marks a return to horror for Hostel director Eli Roth, several years after 2018's Death Wish. The upcoming 2023 scary movie Thanksgiving follows a serial killer in Massachusetts who attempts to make a carving board out of unsuspecting victims. Just like Machete and Hobo with a Shotgun, it is based on one of the Grindhouse fake trailers in the Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino collaboration from 2007. While a horror movie might not evoke the spirit of the season, Thanksgiving is expected to be released close to its eponymous holiday.
