From The Menu to the X prequel Pearl, there are several horror movies that fans are looking forward to, and hopefully they will feature a few smart plot twists. There's always the hope that midway through a film or at the very end, something wild will happen that alters everything that audiences thought that they knew about the story and characters.

Throughout the past couple of decades, horror filmmakers have aimed to surprise audiences with big reveals, but in some cases, fans could see right through these twists. Redditors are sharing the moments that they didn't find all that unexpected.

The Ending Of Shutter Island (2010)

Teddy Shutter Island

Shutter Island left fans with questions, and the final scenes of Shutter Island are definitely haunting. Andrew Laeddis thought up Edward “Teddy” Daniels, who isn't an actual person. The entire story was made up by the doctors to see if they could stop Andrew from making things up.

Redditor PeteOverdrive figured this plot twist out early and wrote, "something that's supposed to be a major twist is pretty obvious from the trailer alone."

The Body Is Jigsaw In Saw (2004)

When it comes to unexpected reveals, the final moments of Saw are often considered amazing and jarring. Redditor Philbregas connected the various story threads and knew what was happening, writing, "I also called the ending to Saw with the body on the floor being Jigsaw then I talked myself out of it."

Whether fans knew that this was the truth or not, it's still a crucial plotline that sets up a chilling franchise that is one of the darkest in the genre. Learning Jigsaw's motives is not something fans will ever forget.

The Village (2004) Is Set In Modern Times

The end of The Village is meant to leave audiences completely stunned, wondering what puzzle pieces were present the entire time. Redditor AniDanny guessed the twist and wrote, "This clearly isn't taking place in the 1800s or whenever it's pretending to be. There's probably a city right outside the woods."

Since M. Night Shyamalan is known for plot twists, it's hard not to watch his films and not try to figure out what the huge reveal is going to be, and that seems to be the case with The Village.

Gabriel Is Part Of Madison/Emily's Spinal Cord And Brain In Malignant (2021)

Madison (Annabelle Wallis) and Sydney (Maddie Hasson) in Malignan

The 2021 film Malignant is incredibly dark and the main character, Madison Lake Mitchell, is pregnant and in an abusive relationship. Audiences learn more about her backstory, including the fact that her real name is Emily May. At the end of the movie, it turns out that Emily's twin brother Gabriel didn't completely leave her and her spinal cord and brain are still attached to him. Redditor youareposthuman said, "I figured out the twist for Malignant bout 20 minutes in. That movie was…not my fave."

There are many scary horror movies about dreams and Madison/Emily's ordeal becomes more frightening by the second. As soon as fans learn about Emily's twin, some are able to guess what's really happening.

Killers Are Pretending To Be The Grandparents In The Visit (2015)

The grandma in The Visit

It's clear from the start of The Visit that siblings Tyler and Becca aren't about to have a fun time with their grandparents. Their Nana and Pop Pop are acting oddly, creating a confusing and scary atmosphere.

Some fans were able to figure out the plot twist that this older couple is not actually the grandparents but two killers who murdered the real Nana and Pop Pop. Redditor NegativePiglet8 said, "I called it from the commercials (and I’m terrible and figuring out twists) so I was a bit disappointed when I ended up being right." Redditor RadiantPersimmon443 called it "predictable" because the "scene of the grandma purposefully slathering batter on the camera was done pretty over the top."

A 9-Year-Old Is The Killer In Identity (2003)

Timmy York in Identity

Identity made an impact when it was released in 2003 as it tells the story of ten people who don't know each other and who are stuck at a hotel together. They're terrified as they know that one of them is a murderer, but they have no idea who it is. Timmy York is the killer in Identity and didn't actually pass away the way that it seemed.

Redditor FuturistMoon guessed that it was Timmy all along. The fan wrote in a thread, "the moment they can't leave the town I turned to my gf in the theater and said 'I know what's going on!'"

Dewey's Death In Scream (2022)

There are many iconic Scream franchise deaths and in Scream (2022), a favorite character meets his end. Sidney Prescott spends time with Dewey Riley and his now ex-wife Gale Weathers again, and while it's an emotional reunion, they never forget that a killer (or possibly two) is on the loose. It's awful seeing Dewey get killed at the hospital where Tara Carpenter is recovering after the attempts that he has made to help everyone.

One Redditor said that this wasn't actually a big plot twist, writing in a thread, "As soon as Sidney said that nothing would ever make her go back to Woodsboro, I knew Dewey was going to die."

Richie And Amber Are The Ghostface Killers In Scream (2022)

The twists in the Scream franchise are always the killers' identity, but since there are always two people behind every string of murders, it's not always a huge surprise, at least not for every fan. Redditor Halloweenmad316 wrote that it was "easy to call the killers within first 10 mins of movie which kinda spoiled the reveal."

Like other killers who hide among their friend groups or partners, it's possible to say that Amber Freeman and Richie Kirsch feel a bit too kind and innocent, which suggests that they have more to do with the situation than meets the eye.

Roman Bridger Is One Ghostface In Scream 3 (2000)

Roman revealing himself as Ghostface in Scream 3

Roman Bridgers says many of Ghostface's most memorable Scream quotes and the Scream 3 killer wasn't a big shock for every fan of the popular franchise. Redditor West-Drink-1530 wrote, "The others that i remember solving was Scream 3's killer ( but his death actually threw me off and kept me guessing)."

The Ghostface killers often follow a pattern of seeming nice, friendly and outgoing, which is supposed to throw fans off and prove that they could never possibly be murderers. This formula does sometimes make it easy to predict who's behind everything.

William Schenk Is The Killer In Spiral: Book of Saw (2021)

Chris Rock as Ezekiel "Zeke" Banks and Max Minghella as William Schenk in Spiral: From the Book of Saw

For Redditor Known_Yesterday_1408, the twist in one of the Saw movies was clear even before they saw the movie: the fan wrote, "I knew who the killer was in Spiral: Book of Saw just from the trailer."

William Schenk begins working with Detective Zeke Banks and see that Jigsaw is at it again. While for some, it's a big moment when William says his name is Emmerson and it turns out that he's actually evil, it's possible to guess based on the trope of killers hiding in plain sight.
