Open world robot survival game Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition will be free starting tonight for PlayStation fans as part of the recent "Play at Home" initiative. The move is an effort from PlayStation to incentivize fans to stay home and play great games, like Horizon Zero Dawn, for free. Previous games that have been supported by the program include Ratchet and Clank and Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, proving that Sony isn't phoning it in with its freebies.

Last month, PlayStation announced new Play at Home titles, including a plethora of acclaimed indies for players to enjoy. The platform holder teased future titles at that time including Guerrilla's beloved open-world adventure game. With the upcoming release of Horizon Forbidden West later this year, this freebie gives fans a great opportunity to catch up on Aloy's story and pick up a critically acclaimed game that can keep them entertained for hours.

Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition will be made available tonight at 8PM PT for all PlayStation users with an active internet connection, as has been established by the PlayStation Blog. The game will remain free until May 14 at 8PM PT, but anyone who downloads it before then will be able to keep it indefinitely. Even if players are busy with other upcoming games like Resident Evil Village, it'll be in their library forever so long as it is claimed before May 14. Rumors have also been swirling that Horizon Forbidden West may be delayed, so there should be plenty of time to catch up for those that haven't had a chance to play the first game. It's also worth noting that despite being a PS4 game, Horizon Zero Dawn can be played on PS5 through backward compatibility mode.

It's unclear if more games will be coming to the Play at Home program after Horizon Zero Dawn, but it seems likely that more games will be made available throughout the summer. This would be a good way to keep PlayStation fans engaged without a premium cost. Whether or not Sony will feel bold and drop something substantial like The Last of Us Part II remains to be seen, but it would certainly be a welcomed addition to the program.

It's nice to see Sony offer up great free games like Horizon Zero Dawn as part of the PlayStation Play at Home program on top of other services like PS5's PlayStation Plus Collection. Although it's no Xbox Game Pass, it's been great to see Sony providing noteworthy titles for new and old PlayStation fans to dig into for a good cause.
