For the Main Quest, "The Sea of Sands," in Horizon Forbidden West, Aloy must defeat a Tideripper in an intense boss battle to protect Molrund and his friends. The Tideripper is a heavyweight amphibious machine that can wreak devastating havoc on land and water. Weaponizing Purgewater, the beast can blast high-pressure attacks at Aloy that deal massive damage. To beat this boss in Horizon Forbidden West, players must understand its moveset as well as its strengths and weaknesses.

With Purgewater as its primary weaponized Element, the Tideripper will be highly resistant to any water-based attacks from the player. Fire damage also has little effect on the plesiosaur-style machine since it can use its abilities to douse any flames instantly. On the other hand, Frost and Shock damage are very effective against the Tideripper. Players can take advantage of these weaknesses by using Freeze Arrows or Traps and Blastsling ammo that deal Shock damage.

After a cutscene plays and the battle begins, Aloy has a few moments before the Tideripper spots her. Players can use this time to scan the beast in Horizon Forbidden West and locate its weak points and other spots of interest on its body. First, its Heart and Exhaust Port are where it will take the most damage. Next, the monster has two Purgewater Sacs that are combustible. With these details in mind, players should focus on attacking these areas to make quick work of the machine.

How To Beat Tideripper in Horizon Forbidden West

To beat the Tideripper in "The Sea of Sands," players need to understand the boss' attacks and abilities. First of all, do not be fooled by its fins and clumsy-looking body. While the Tideripper may seem more practical for battle in water, it can instantly leap across the ground, smashing its target. The mechanical creature's long neck also gives it a long reach for striking. Yet, what players should be careful of the most are its ranged-Purgewater abilities in Horizon Forbidden West.

The Tideripper can spew pressurized beams of Purgewater from its mouth and body. The spitting attack can fire at long range and with high accuracy. The Purgewater that shoots from its body will be executed in a circular area of effect, so players only need to stay away from the beast when it starts spinning. It is recommended that players do not stand still when firing at the Tideripper, even if they are quite far from the boss. As mentioned previously, the machine can quickly close any distance between its prey through various attacks.
