Guerrilla Games has unleashed a new story trailer for Horizon: Forbidden West that teases Sylens' undoubtedly sinister plans. Sylens played a key part in Horizon Zero Dawn's events, acting as a curious researcher who guided Aloy in her journey throughout much of the experience. By the end, however, it was clear the former had ulterior motives he wasn't too keen on sharing with the rest of the class. What that may mean for Forbidden West in the long run presently remains a mystery.

The latest story teaser for the sequel doesn't mark the first confirmation of Sylens' return. He appeared in previous trailers, too, though Guerrilla Games made sure to keep his role in the grand scheme of things under lock and key. Given the interest he showed in the antagonistic HADES AI at the end of Horizon Zero Dawn, it seems safe to assume that Sylens' intentions in Forbidden West won't be considered good.

Today, January 19, Guerrilla Games and Sony unleashed a brand-new story trailer for Horizon Forbidden West. Many of Aloy's enemies and allies take center stage, yet it's a tease about Sylens that proves especially interesting. Partway through the trailer, Aloy learns of a rebel tribe in the Forbidden West led by a brutal warrior named Regalla (portrayed by Angela Bassett), who supposedly "answers to a higher power." The trailer's editing suggests Sylens is that higher power, supplying Regalla and her rebel forces with weapons and a way in which to control "machines of war." While Sylens' motives remain a secret, it seems as though Aloy will stop at nothing to thwart whatever threat lies in wait. Horizon Forbidden West's newest trailer features below:

Notably, the trailer's final moments also tease the advent of another new character, Tilda. In addition to confirming Angela Bassett's casting as Regalla, Guerrilla told Game Informer that The Matrix star Carrie-Anne Moss is bringing the new mystery character to life. Senior Writer Annie Kitain further hinted Tilda's connection to the "ancient past;" of course, players will have to work through the specifics for themselves when the sequel launches next month.

The narrative's expansion isn't the only thing fans have to look forward to with Horizon Forbidden West. Guerrilla additionally went through great lengths to improve upon the gameplay and exploration, even adding in underwater sections for Aloy to explore. And, fortunately, the wait to experience the game in full is nearly at an end.
