Jim Ryan, the CEO and President of PlayStation, has confirmed the eagerly-anticipated Horizon Forbidden West will come to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles in the back half of 2021. Developer Guerrilla Games unveiled the sequel during Sony's first PS5 event last summer. It wasn't until a few months later that Sony acknowledged Horizon Forbidden West will also launch on PS4.

The next Horizon entry follows Aloy's journey after the events of the first game. Based on the scant details shared thus far, the character is now moving further west, where her trek to the Pacific coast will hopefully unearth answers to new questions that have arisen since last we saw her. Strangely, the source of the latest mystery centers around a deadly plague. During the adventure, Aloy will also have to contend with Supercell storms and a host of new killer machines. Guerrilla showcased all of the above and more during Horizon Forbidden West's reveal trailer, but when the team plans on further lifting the veil constitutes yet another mystery.

Earlier this morning, Sony announced that a second PlayStation VR headset is in development. PlayStation boss Jim Ryan, consequently, had a series of interviews lined up to discuss the news. In doing so, the brand's other projects became the topic of conversation, and, as spotted by Twitter user Nibel, one interview resulted in Ryan briefly making mention of the Horizon sequel's release window. Ryan told Japanese publication Famitsu that Horizon Forbidden West will arrive sometime in the "latter half of 2021." The title still lacks a firm due date, though.

Aloy's next adventure could reasonably arrive at anytime in the back half of the year, though the newly announced delay of Gran Turismo 7 might leave room for Horizon to serve as PlayStation's big fall game. This release window especially seems perfect for the sequel when considering how packed the first half of the year is on PlayStation platforms.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits presumably remains on track for an early 2021 launch, for example. PS5 exclusive Returnal hits the console on April 30, followed by the release of timed-console exclusive Deathloop on May 21. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, another major PS5 title, will round at the first half of 2021 with its arrival on June 11.
