With its predecessor already on PC, it seems like something of an inevitability that Horizon Forbidden West will eventually come to the platform. Guerrilla Games' second foray into the 31st century open world of Horizon is one of the biggest PlayStation games releasing in 2022, but many who played the original on PC are likely keen on seeing where Aloy's journey takes her next. Sony is typically rather quiet on matters such as PC releases, and probably won't jeopardize any potential sales by announcing a PC launch date for Horizon Forbidden West any time soon.

After releasing nothing but shooters for nearly a decade - most belonging to the Killzone franchise - Guerrilla Games dropped Horizon Zero Dawn in February 2017. Two and a half years later, Zero Dawn came to PC, beginning a new era in which high profile PlayStation exclusives are becoming available to a wider audience. Death Stranding and Days Gone were also ported, but the success of the most recent PlayStation PC release, God of War, proves console exclusives are obsolete. There is clearly a large audience of PC gamers who will purchase Sony's games, but not its hardware, and many are almost assuredly hoping for a quick turnaround between Forbidden West's PlayStation and (unconfirmed) PC releases.

Horizon Zero Dawn seems to have benefitted greatly from its subsequent PC release. As noted by the head of PlayStation Studios, Hermen Hulst, on Twitter recently, Zero Dawn has surpassed 20 million sales on PS4 and PC as of last November. According to an old PlayStation Blog post, Zero Dawn surpassed 10 million sales around its two year anniversary, six months before the PC release. This means releasing Zero Dawn on PC potentially doubled its already impressive console sales.

When Horizon Forbidden West Might Launch On PC

Horizon Forbidden West Review Roundup

The time between Horizon Zero Dawn's initial launch and its port is about par for PlayStation's PC ports, if not a bit longer than usual. Days Gone took almost exactly two years to come to PC, and God of War was just under the two year mark. Death Stranding is the biggest outlier, coming to PC only eight months after it arrived on PS4. Forbidden West is a sequel worth waiting for, and it seems likely that PC players will have to do just that.

Even though Sony appears to be increasingly more willing to bring its exclusives to PC, Horizon Forbidden West has been a major marketing tool for its latest hardware. Even though the game is launching cross-generationally on PS4 as well, it has been inextricably linked to the reveal and promotion of the PS5. It's probably the biggest PlayStation exclusive coming to the PS5 thus far next to Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Although this is speculation, Sony likely views Horizon Forbidden West as a system seller, and will likely wait to release it on PC until sales on console start to dwindle.
