Unlocking every mount in Horizon Forbidden West will make it much easier for Aloy to get around. Since this game's open-world is so massive, it can become tiresome to explore it using only her two feet. In the original Horizon Zero Dawn, it was possible to hack every machine in the game to make them a temporary party member. While this is also true in this entry, there is a handful that can be used indefinitely and almost act as pets. It's important to unlock them all as soon as possible as they make traversal much easier.
There are four different mounts for players to unlock in Horizon Forbidden West. In order to get them all, Aloy will need to find and hack specific Cauldrons that can be found in the world. Three of these mounts can be used to help Aloy get around land faster while the final increases her air travel speed. Ultimately, grabbing them all can make it easier to find every hidden secret and Easter egg available in the game. Fortunately, unlocking the first mount can happen at the start of the game.
The mounts in Horizon Forbidden West are the Chargers, Bristlebacks, Clawstriders, and the Sunwing. Chargers can be encountered towards the beginning of the game when Aloy discovers herds. She will already have the override code at the start of the game. Chargers will help Aloy travel on land faster but they are susceptible to being destroyed easily. They cannot take a lot of damage without shutting down.
Unlocking Every Mount in Horizon Forbidden West
- Sunwing: The fastest mount in Horizon Forbidden West and is already better than the glider. This one is unlocked by progressing through the main story. It's a part of the main mission "Gemini" and it's recommended to be at least level 29 before accepting it. Complete the mission and Sunwing can now be mounted.
- Chargers: Found early in the game. Aloy will have access to this code from the very beginning.
- Bristleback: Another land mount that can go fast and does a lot of damage. Located in the Daunt, the first major area of Horizon Forbidden West. The cauldron for the Bristlebacks will be found in Repair Bay. Hack it and Aloy can ride Bristlebacks.
- Clawstrider: These are slower mounts that are incredibly strong. Aloy will need to complete the IOTA Cauldron to the north of Scalding Spear.
Players should try to unlock every mount as early as possible. Since Horizon Forbidden West takes place in such a beautiful and vast world, it's likely the player will want to see it all. The Sunwing is arguably the best mount in the game, similar to the glider, the Sunwing can help the player soar through the air. Although, the Sunwing doesn't need any height in order to take off. There are no permanent mounts that increase the player's speed during underwater expeditions.
