PlayStation exclusive Horizon Forbidden West contains a missable trophy. Many are embroiled in Guerrilla Games' latest open world adventure with protagonist Aloy, and there are likely a lot of players hoping to secure the game's platinum trophy, awarded for earning all the game's others. Open world games are usually pretty good about avoiding this issue that causes players to do multiple play throughs, but Horizon Forbidden West contains one silver trophy that is partially tied to a main quest, making it easily missed if players aren't paying close enough attention.

The missable trophy is titled "All Machine Types Scanned," and wouldn't be much of an issue, if it weren't for a special encounter near the end of the game. As the trophy name suggests, it has to do with using Aloy's Focus to scan some of the new machines introduced in Horizon Forbidden West, a couple of which have very limited opportunities to be scanned. Without getting too deep into spoilers, a few more details are below, but trophy hunters trying to play the game without any foreknowledge should just know that they'll want to scan every machine possible during a main quest titled "Singularity." It's also important to note that dying and reloading a checkpoint will negate the scan, forcing the player to redo it.

For those who don't mind a few more details of what awaits near the end of Horizon Forbidden West, the machines that make the trophy missable are called Specter and Specter Prime. Many players may have already encountered Specters once, while Aloy was retrieving the backup of GAIA. Aloy has a run-in with what appears to be members of Horizon Forbidden West's Far Zenith, and Specters are sent to search for Aloy after the ancient facility partially collapses.

Horizon Forbidden West's Missable Trophy Is In A Bad Place

Horizon Forbidden West's missable trophy requires players to scan every machine in the game, including Specters only seen during certain quests

As far as trophy tasks go, "All Machine Types Scanned" is pretty run of the mill, but this one caveat makes it an inconvenience. Scanning machines with Aloy's Focus is a commonly used game mechanic, letting players see a machine's level, as well as its strengths, weaknesses, and destructible components. Unfortunately, Specter and Prime Specter machines come at the tail end of the main story, and players may not think to take the time to scan them, especially since the Prime Specter battle is something of a boss fight.

Trophies aren't all meant to be easy like the one in Horizon Forbidden West that plants real-life trees, and even though silver ones are intended to be middling in difficulty, "All Machine Types Scanned" can be incredibly frustrating since anyone dead set on obtaining the platinum for Forbidden West will have to play through virtually the whole game again if it's missed the first time around. Potential DLC could theoretically resolve this issue, but there has yet to be confirmation of an expansion on the way. For now, Horizon Forbidden West trophy hunters will just have to be diligent, lest they be forced into starting a new game just to secure one last trophy for the platinum.
