It may take players a very long time to go through everything Horizon Forbidden West has to offer, it's reported that getting the 100 percent completion achievement could take several hundred hours. Guerilla Games’ latest post-apocalyptic open-world action-adventure game is set to be released on February 18 and will continue the story of Nora Tribe outcast-turned-hero Aloy as she journeys to uncover the mystery of a deadly plague that threatens the land. Along the way, she will team up with old friends like Erend to battle a rogue, cult-like tribe under the leadership of the brutal warrior Regalla, as shown in the recent Horizon Forbidden West story trailer.

Just like with 2017’s Horizon Zero Dawn, there will be plenty of quests and side activities for players to distract themselves from the main plot in Horizon Forbidden West. As Aloy makes her latest trek across the titular Forbidden West, she will hunt new robotic enemies like the snake-like Slitherfang, help out villagers with whatever they need, and roam the dangerous terrain using new equipment like the grappling hook-like Pullcaster. The game world is also set to stretch beyond the post-apocalypse United States that served as the setting for Zero Dawn, meaning that there will be plenty of new villages and tribes to explore and uncover while utilizing Horizon Forbidden West's new gameplay features.

As reported by The Gamer, Twitter user Joe Miller has claimed that Horizon Forbidden West director Mathijs de Jonge notes the game will take players roughly “several hundred hours” to gain 100 percent completion (in both the main storyline and side quests), in contrast to the 60 to 100 hours it takes to complete everything in Zero Dawn. While some have claimed the comments come from a mistranslation, the tweet has caused a stir on social media. Early reactions to this news have been mixed, with some praising Horizon Forbidden West for giving them more content for their money and others humorously lamenting that they will be playing nothing but Forbidden West for the foreseeable future. At the time of writing, neither Guerrilla Games nor de Jonge have responded to the claim.

As well as being longer, Horizon Forbidden West promises graphical upgrades from the already visually impressive Zero Dawn. Players will also be able to customize Aloy as they see fit with Horizon Forbidden West’s new branching skill tree, which allows the spear-wielding heroine to become a stealthy hunter or a more straightforward warrior based on one of six unique playstyles. The game will only have one standard ending, though Guerilla Games has promised that certain aspects of this ending will change based on the narrative choices Aloy makes throughout her adventure in Horizon Forbidden West.

Getting to that endpoint with 100 percent completion is going to take a very long time if the claims are anything to go by. Naturally, players can choose to skip Horizon Forbidden West’s many side quests and bonus activities and simply focus on the main storyline, but those who wish to clear through everything could be playing for quite a while when Forbidden West launches next month.
