Here's a guide to the cast and characters of the 1989 adventure Honey, I Shrunk The Kids. This classic adventure started life as a script called Teeny Weenies, which was developed as a project for Re-Animator director Stuart Gordon. He ultimately left and was replaced by Joe Johnston, with the movie seeing a group of kids shrunk down by a machine invented by scientist Wayne. They then have to navigate the hazards found in the overgrown backyard to survive and make their way home.

Honey, I Shrunk The Kids was a surprise success for the studio, and star Rick Moranis soon returned for 1992 sequel Honey, I Blew Up The Kid, where he accidentally expands his toddler to Kaiju proportions. The follow-up wasn't as well-received critically or commercially. The final installment of the original trilogy Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves was conceived as a theatrical effort, but Disney decided to experiment and see how well a live-action straight to video sequel would do. The budget was thus slashed and the movie marked Rick Moranis' final live-action role for decades, though he's set to come out of retirement for forthcoming legacy sequel Shrunk.

Rick Moranis - Wayne Szalinski

Rick Moranis (Ghostbusters) led the original film as Wayne, a quirky scientist. He's invented a shrinking machine that he can't get to work properly, but one day when he's not at home it ends up shrinking down both his and the next-door neighbors' children. He's up to the kindly Wayne to fix the machine and save the kids.

Marcia Strassman - Diane Szalinski

The late Marcia Strassman played Diane in Honey, I Shrunk The Kids, Wayne's wife and a real estate agent. Her marriage to Wayne is strained due to him spending all his time building a ray gun that doesn't seem to work. They two quickly unite over the search for their children once they realize what's happened.

Amy O'Neill - Amy Szalinski

Amy is the oldest of the Szalinski kids and has little interest in Wayne's inventions, unlike her brother Nick. Despite a tough exterior she's shown to care for Nick and helps lead the group through the lawn, including fighting back against the scorpion they face. She and neighbor Russ Thompson, Jr. eventually form a romance.

Robert Oliveri - Nick Szalinski

Robert Oliveri plays the youngest Szalinski Nick, who takes after his father in scientific interests. He goes through various traumas throughout Honey, I Shrunk The Kids, including the nightmarish trek through the lawn and, most famously, almost being eaten by his father when he lands in his cereal bowl. The grown Nick will be played by Josh Gad (Beauty And The Beast) in Shrunk.

Thomas Wilson Brown - Russ Thompson, Jr.

Russ (Thomas Wilson Brown) is the oldest son of Russ (Matt Frewer) and Mae (Kristine Sutherland, Buffy The Vampire Slayer) in Honey, I Shrunk The Kids, who have a contentious relationship with Wayne. Russ and his father struggle to connect and he has a crush on Amy. The two later form a romance over their journey through the garden and help keep their younger siblings safe.

Jared Rushton - Ron Thompson

Jared Rushton played Ron Thompson in Honey, I Shrunk The Kids, whose personality is more in line with his father. He's also a bully to Nick and is forced by his brother to go to the Szalinski house when he accidentally hits a baseball through their window. This activates the shrinking machine, setting the plot in motion. By the end of their adventures, Ron and Nick have become friends.
