Honest Thief had a relatively successful opening weekend, topping the box office with $3.7 million in domestic sales. The action-thriller stars Liam Neeson, who has become a staple in the genre after starring in the Taken series. The film was written by another champion of suspense thrillers: Mark Williams, co-creator of Netflix's Ozark.

The talent behind Honest Thief gave it the boost the film needed to take the top spot in box office sales. The film was released nationwide on October 16. According to Variety, while the film was top grossing at the box office this weekend, it only made $3.7 million, which is one of the lowest ever totals for a No. 1 movie. While there are many factors to blame like apprehensive moviegoers, the lack of blockbuster releases, and movie theaters remaining close in major markets like New York City and Los Angeles, it's clear that movie theaters are hurting now more than ever.

The War With Grandpa came in second during its second week in theaters, bringing in $2.5 million domestically for a total of $7.2 million overall. Christopher Nolan's Tenet wrapped up its 7th week in theaters with a total of $1.6 million domestically, bringing the total to $50.6 million in the U.S. and $339.3 million internationally. Tenet has been bumped from its No. 1 spot for the second consecutive week, losing to The War With Grandpa a week prior.
