Aisling Bea recently joked about being too young to play the mother role in Home Sweet Home Alone. The Home Alone movie franchise kicked off in 1990 with the original Christmas classic starring Macaulay Culkin as Kevin, a crafty eight-year-old who defends his home against the infamous bandits. In 1992, Home Alone 2: Lost In New York follows up with Kevin as he mistakenly gets on the wrong plane and winds up in New York City by himself. The latest, Home Sweet Home Alone, is the sixth rendition to arrive in the Home Alone franchise and follows the antics of down and out parents Jeff and Pam McKenzie as they turn to criminal lengths to save their house and their livelihood.

Home Sweet Home Alone began development in August 2019 for an exclusive run on Disney+. However, as with many of Disney's projects, it came to a screeching halt in March 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. By July 2020, most of the casting had been completed, including Kenan Thompson, Pete Holmes, and Aisling Bea. Filming for the movie resumed in November of the same year. The film ultimately arrived on the Disney+ streaming platform in November 2021.

As reported by Metro, Aisling Bea recently joked that she was too young to be cast as the mother in the new Home Sweet Home Alone film. According to the 37-year old comic and actress, she was also honored to play the role given the popularity centered around the Home Alone franchise as a whole. Bea also joked about attempting to play the "Macaulay Culkin" role. However, that apparently did not work out. See Bea's exact comments below after being asked if she thought she was too young to play the part:

Absolutely. I was half honoured, half absolutely insulted. I auditioned to be [the new Macaulay Culkin part]. I sent a million tapes in but it just didn’t work out.

After graduating from drama school, Bea primarily landed roles in comedic television series. Additionally, Bea took to the stage as a stand-up comedian and in 2012 went on to win The Gilded Balloon So You Think You're Funny award at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Bea also co-wrote and co-hosted the BBC Radio 4's comedy folklore series Micks and Legends, nominated for a Chortle Award in 2013. Next up for Bea is the newest rendition of Doctor Who, a series of three specials set to begin airing on BBC in January 2022.

Given Bea's natural ability and aptitude for comedy, it is generally expected that the actress would toss around jokes regarding her role in Home Sweet Home Alone. With much of her career centering around comedy in some form and given the abysmal score for Home Sweet Home Alone allotted by both audiences and critics on Rotten Tomatoes, it comes as no surprise that Bea would prefer to take a comedic approach to the entire situation. However, the film does provide a few genuine laughs, and audiences can check out Bea's work for themselves right now exclusively on Disney+.
