Disney+'s upcoming Home Alone reboot finally has a release date after pandemic-related delays pushed back filming for the festive remake. The Home Alone franchise has remained a holiday classic since the 1990 original. Kevin McCallister's (Macaulay Culkin) solo antics and genius tactics to stop some nutty burglars created some memorable scenes still referenced and remembered 30 years later.

Disney previously announced that a reboot titled Home Sweet Home Alone would be happening back in 2019. But like many films slated to film in 2020, it was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, the streaming giant revealed that the adventure comedy film will finally debut November 12 exclusively on Disney+, just in time for the holidays.

The new Home Alone film, directed by Dan Mazer, follows a mischievous young boy named Max Mercer (played by Archie Yates) who gets left behind when his family travels to Japan for the holidays — very reminiscent of Kevin. Max has to protect a priceless heirloom from a couple (played by Ellie Kemper and Rob Delaney) trying to break into his family's home to steal it. Of course, his tactics include chaotic hijinks and probably a booby trap or two. The film also stars Kenan Thompson (Saturday Night Live), Aisling Bea, Pete Holmes, Tim Simons, and more.

Mazer clearly has a lot of pressure to make the reimagined version of the Chris Columbus classic both true to the original and something that can stand all on its own. Particularly considering the longtime tradition many people have of watching the Home Alone films around the holiday season. And Columbus hasn't been exactly happy about the Disney-fied version of his classic, meaning the Home Alone reboot truly has to be a knockout to succeed.
