Aisling Bea, who stars as Max Mercer's mom in Disney+'s upcoming Home Alone reboot, Home Sweet Home Alone, comments on the backlash about her character's English accent. Disney recently released the first trailer for the upcoming reboot of the holiday classic, which will be the first film in the franchise since 2012. Home Sweet Home Alone stars Archie Yates as Max, a 10-year-old boy left behind by his parents when they leave for Christmas vacation.

Bea stars in Home Sweet Home Alone as Max's mom, Carol, an English woman who is distraught after discovering her son is home alone across the globe. Bea appears alongside Ellie Kemper, Rob Delaney, and Pete Holmes. The Irish actor and comedian is best known for her roles in This Way Up and Love Wedding Repeat. When Disney+ unveiled the first trailer for the Home Alone reboot, some fans were shocked to hear the Irish comedian have such a posh British accent for a change.

Bea then posted a funny video to Twitter explaining her Home Sweet Home Alone character's accent. She started off by pointing out that Carol is from England, so that's why she has a British accent. Bea added that it would be "quite strange" if an English character spoke with her traditional Irish accent. She also took time to show off her ability to seamlessly transition to different accents at the drop of a hat, speaking as someone from Australia and the Southern U.S. Check out Bea's hilarious response video below:

While there are clearly mixed feelings about Disney's upcoming Home Alone reboot, being upset about Bea's accent swap seems a bit misguided. Actors prove all of the time that they are able to mask their traditional speaking voices and take on entirely new accents for roles, so why would Bea's British accent be any different? If anything, it's an indicator of her impressive skills as a performer and should only add to the movie.

Home Sweet Home Alone clearly has big expectations to live up to considering the long-standing popularity of the original. However, it doesn't seem like Bea's simple accent swap will be the determining factor for viewers come November 12 when the movie debuts on Disney+. Audiences will be more concerned with whether or not the new film is a worthy continuation of the beloved Home Alone franchise or if it instead pales in comparison.
