The cast from the original Home Alone movie is planning a virtual reunion. Home Alone was released in 1990 and spent 12 consecutive weeks at the top spot for box office releases. Macaulay Culkin, who plays Kevin McCallister, rose to fame following the film's success, and the 10-year-old actor even landed a Golden Globes Award nomination. The hugely popular Christmas film inspired multiple sequels and spin-offs, including the beloved follow-up Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. The classic festive flick is still influencing Christmas films today, with Home Sweet Home Alone continuing the franchise when it was released only last month.

Over 30 years later, much of the on-screen family has moved on to bigger things. Culkin, now aged 40, recently welcomed a child and starred in American Horror Story season 10 as Mickey, a role for which he received high praise from fans. Catherine O'Hara, who played Kevin's mother Kate McCallister, also went on to have a hit TV career. In recent years, O'Hara has been known best for her role as Moira Rose in Schitt's Creek. The acclaimed actor has received multiple prestigious accolades for her Schitt's Creek performance, including two Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe. Other cast members, such as Joe Pesci and Kristin Minter, have also enjoyed impressive film careers.

Now, decades on, many of the Home Alone cast are planning a virtual reunion. According to People, Devin Ratray, who played the bullying Buzz McCallister, has revealed the cast's plan to get the family back together. The acting said the original movie cast has been "planning a reunion online," and he's just been brought into the chat thread. Exciting fans who are eager to see the Home Alone cast reprise their roles again one day, the actor teased, "who knows what’s going to happen in the future." Ratray also spoke fondly about the film franchise that brought them all together, and said he felt honored to be part of such an iconic movie's "legacy." Read his full comments below:

“They have been planning a reunion online and I just recently, as in a couple of days ago, got on their messenger chat thread ... And I have been trying to keep up with Jed Cohen and Diana [Rein] and Terrie [Snell] and Angela Goethals and Hillary Wolf. The family is moving on their own accord to get together, so who knows what’s going to happen in the future ... I've come to realize that this movie, it's bigger than me. It's bigger than any actor's ego. It has become part of indelible imprints in family — in their consciousness.”

Unfortunately, the entire cast won't be able to make the Home Alone reunion, since Ratray confirmed the sad news that neither Culkin brothers (Macaulay and Kieran) or O'Hara would be involved. Despite them not being able to make the virtual get-together, Ratray had nothing but kind words to say about his on-screen brothers and mother. Ratray said that Kieran Culkin "has always been a real actor.” As for O'Hara, Ratray shared his fond memories of working with her on Home Alone, saying, “she was so generous. To her, we weren’t children – we were actors. She was there for us every take, giving everything that she would do for her own close-ups.”

Although it is a shame that Culkin and O'Hara can't make a Home Alone reunion, it's easy to see how they may have a lot to fit into their schedule, since both have kept busy with projects over the past year. For fans of the iconic Christmas film, it's heartwarming to hear that the original Home Alone cast is still keeping in touch and have such fondness for the roles they played. With Ratray even appearing in Home Sweet Home Alone to reprise his role as Buzz, it's clear to see the actors have a real connection to the franchise and their Home Alone family. Their real-life friendship is just one of the reasons that Home Alone remains a Christmas classic to this day.
