Six people were arrested after briefly changing the spelling of the Hollywood Sign. The Hollywood Sign is one of the most famous American landmarks overlooking the film industry in Los Angeles. It was created almost a century ago in 1923 and has become a icon for tourists all over the world and is the subject of countless pop culture references. The sign is located in the Hollywood Hills area in the Santa Monica Mountains on Mount Lee and is privately secured by the Hollywood Sign Trust. The area surrounding the sign is heavily guarded by fences and is under intense security to prevent pranks and vandalism. While the sign cannot be approached, people can view it from the Griffith Observatory.

In a recent Twitter post by Michael Stevens who is known as Vsauce, there were photos of a large tarp of the letter B that was placed over the W of the Hollywood Sign and another smaller tarp representing a dash placed in the middle of the D to look like the letter B spelling "HOLLYBOOB". LAPD Captain Steve Lurie stated that the six people, five men and one woman, were caught on video trespassing and were arrested by patrol officers after the deed. The Hollywood Sign Twitter page retweeted Laurie's statement on Twitter thanking him and the LAPD Hollywood Division for the quick response.

The Hollywood Sign

This is not the first time the iconic sign has been tampered with. Most recent was during the first hours of New Year's Day 2017 when a prankster put dark tarps to cover a part of both Os to make it look like Es to read "HOLLYWeeD". In the case of this particular incident, the six individuals changed the sign to show awareness to breast cancer, according to police. All six are being charged with misdemeanor trespassing.
