Here's what viewers can expect from Hollywood season 2 if Netflix decides to renew the series. The drama, created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, debuted on the streaming giant in May 2020. Hollywood follows the golden age of Tinseltown through a "what if" lens if certain dynamics of the industry would have been changed.

Across seven episodes, Hollywood examines the racism, homophobia, blackmailing, and power struggle throughout the film industry in the post-WWII era. Rather than fall into the trap, a group that includes young actors, a screenwriter, and a director fight for their big break. With the help of a major studio, the culture is dismantled forever with the development of one key film. Although inspired by true events, Hollywood shows what could have been if those in charge took more risks.

Hollywood is just one of Murphy's several shows releasing in 2020. The creator sure knows how to put a stellar cast list together and his latest foray with Netflix is no different. Leading the young cast list is Darren Criss, David Corenswet, Laura Harrier, Jeremy Pope, Samara Weaving, and Jake Picking. Other highlights include Patti LuPone, Holland Taylor, Jim Parsons, Joe Mantello, Dylan McDermott, and numerous others. With the impressive names involved, many viewers might be wondering if Hollywood has a future beyond season 1 and what a follow-up might look like.

Hollywood Was A Limited Series

Hollywood was produced by Netflix as a miniseries, meaning the streamer had intentions for a limited run. The series by Ryan and Brennan was loosely based on industry culture in the post-WWII era but with an alternate reality approach. Hollywood mixes real figures with fictional characters to share a story of perseverance through a group of underrepresented faces. While Netflix usually gives series a chance to run multiple seasons, they aren't strangers to limited series. Godless, When They See Us, and Unbelievable are a few previously released miniseries that caught wide attention.

Netflix Has No Plans To Renew Hollywood For Season 2

Netflix

At the moment, Netflix shared no indication of whether they would contemplate giving Hollywood a follow-up installment. In addition, Murphy or Brennan haven't shared extending their series for a Hollywood season 2. It would most likely depend on ratings and viewer interest to even stir up a renewal discussion. Even if the show does extremely well, the creators may have no plans to continue the narrative or create a new story for Hollywood season 2.

What Hollywood Season 2's Story Could Be

Netflix

Hollywood ties up loose ends in the season finale so it seems very unlikely that the series would revisit the same cast of characters in a follow-up installment. The more plausible option would be to make Hollywood an anthology series. Murphy is no stranger to anthologies considering his success with American Horror Story and American Crime Story. If Hollywood season 2 does get greenlit, it would be interesting to see the series jump to the '50s when the film industry was being threatened by the emergence of TV. The decade also featured rampant communist blacklisting which destroyed the careers of prominent figures in Hollywood. The series would have the opportunity to bring back actors from season 1 but in different roles which is what Murphy has done with his other anthologies.
