Sharp-eyed Harry Potter fans may have discovered a hidden Weasley ancestor in Hogwarts Legacy, and there's reason to believe the game's developers were keeping it a secret on purpose. For the most part, the game features no prominent characters from the franchise's books or films. Hogwarts Legacy is set around 100 years before the events of the novels, so most characters have not even been born during the time of its events. However, well-known families from the Wizarding World - such as the Weasleys - are still around, even if the specific NPCs players will encounter are complete strangers. In previous trailers and showcases, such as Hogwarts Legacy's Back to Hogwarts 2022 special, players will likely be able to spot a red-headed Gryffindor student named Hector Jenkins. He was seen again in a recent behind-the-scenes video; however, there was one notable difference - the character Hector Jenkins is now shown as Hector Weasley. Twitter user 3ugene_tm spotted the change and brought it up on social media. Although developers have previously teased that players can expect to see "a Weasley or two" in Hogwarts Legacy, one of whom is a professor, up until now there have been no real hints about who exactly they could be. If Hector is meant to be one of them, it would appear that he's been purposefully hidden away in previous footage.Related: Hogwarts Legacy Is Going To Keep You Very Busy

Who The Secret Weasley Ancestor Is In Hogwarts Legacy

Two potential Weasley NPCs in Hogwarts Legacy, and Ron Weasley from Harry Potter.

It wouldn't be the first time that nods to the broader Harry Potter universe were hidden inside of gameplay footage. One Hogwarts Legacy trailer hid a Diagon Alley secret within it, and fans were just as quick to spot that, as well. More recently, developers hinted at a Grindelwald cameo with the inclusion of Inferi in another trailer. It was likely only a matter of time before more information was subtly revealed, though whether the Hector Weasley cameo was intentional or not is up for debate. Many prospective Hogwarts Legacy players didn't even seem to notice it, and others have debated whether the characters are meant to be the same or not.

It's also possible that Hector's identity was merely changed later on in the game's development process. Due to multiple shake-ups during production, Hogwarts Legacy has been delayed into 2023 and is now set to launch in February of that year. Whether it will be pushed back further remains to be seen, however. In addition, there's quite a lot that could still change ahead of the release date. Although Hogwarts Legacy's main characters are more than likely set in stone, minor NPCs could still be changed, added, or removed.

Either way, it's clear that players will have to wait until the game comes out to uncover all the secrets in Hogwarts Legacy, including the identity of any Weasley ancestors that may be attending the wizarding school. While there have been plenty of trailers released already, it's still uncertain how Hogwarts Legacy is adapting Harry Potter canon in many other regards. Hopefully, February 2023 will bring with it the chance to learn everything there is to know about Hogwarts Legacy and the characters that can be found in the game, including Hector Weasley.
