Students will get to know two different members of the Rookwood family during their wizarding journey, but may be wondering exactly how Charles and Viktor Rookwood are related in Hogwarts Legacy. After all, the two are complete opposites as far as values and personality traits go; Charles is one of the four supportive Keepers who assists the protagonist in unlocking the true extent of their powers, while Victor is a pompous, cunning dark wizard. It's hard to imagine that the two are related at all, but by taking a deeper look into both Hogwarts Legacy lore, players can achieve a better idea of their relationship.

Victor and Charles Rookwood aren't the only characters who share an unusual familial bond. Hogwarts Legacy's Ominis Gaunt is related to Voldemort, despite his undying aversion to dark magic. Garreth Weasley and Deputy Headmistress Weasley share a slightly tamer relationship, although the Gryffindor student complains that his aunt keeps too close of an eye on him. But when it comes to how Victor and Charles Rookwood are related in Hogwarts Legacy, the answer isn't as straightforward.

Hogwarts Legacy's Charles Rookwood Is Victor's Distant Ancestor

How Hogwarts Legacy's Villain Is Related To A Harry Potter Death Eater Victor Augustus Rookwood

Although the specifics remain muddled, it's safe to say that Victor and Charles Rookwood are quite distantly related in Hogwarts Legacy. Charles was a Transfiguration professor at Hogwarts in either the 15th or 16th century, and since Victor is alive during the 1890s, it can be estimated that there are between 15 and 20 generations separating them. In fact, the Rookwood Gang was created by Victor's own father, meaning that the family only became associated with crime 400-500 years after Charles died (but since the Harry Potter Death Eater Augustus Rookwood is Victor's descendant, it looks as though their evil legacy continued on).

Victor Rookwood's Gang Is New To Hogwarts Legacy

Those who have finished Hogwarts Legacy's story will know the ultimate fate of Victor, but strangely, next to nothing is known about his family and how they relate to Charles Rookwood. His father was responsible for conceiving and running one of the most dangerous crime syndicates of the time, and yet his name and life story both remain complete mysteries. The only information available regarding Victor's dad is found in The Art of Making Hogwarts Legacy book, which states that he suffered an "untimely (and suspicious) death" before his son took over the Rookwood Gang at the young age of 22.

Although it's purely speculation, this peculiar wording implies that Victor Rookwood may have assassinated his own father to assume control over the Rookwood Gang. Some players might struggle with knowing whether to use Avada Kedavra in Hogwarts Legacy, but if this theory is true, then Victor had little to no qualms using this twisted spell on his own flesh and blood if it meant he would personally gain from it. So even though it's still unknown exactly how Charles and Victor Rookwood are related in Hogwarts Legacy, the former may have been correct to be utterly disdainful towards his distant, yet irreparably evil descendant.
