While it may be too early to tell if a Hogwarts Legacy sequel is in the works, another entry in the series could take the opportunity to explore one of the many other schools in the canon universe. Although there have been other schools that have played small roles over the years, like participating in the Triwizard Tournament, none have ever been extensively delved into. Out of the 11 schools J.K. Rowling has established exist, perhaps the most promising is Mahoutokoro, the Japanese wizarding school.

While there's no shortage of things in Hogwarts Legacy to keep players busy, there's only so much that can be done with the Hogwarts setting. Even with the game being set in the 1890s, which has provided a host of new characters and plotlines, it still feels all too familiar in many ways. If a Hogwarts Legacy sequel happens, Mahoutokoro could make an ideal setting for a brand-new story.

A Hogwarts Legacy Sequel Should Go To Japan

Thanks to the attendance of students like Harry Potter, Hogwarts has been the center of attention in the wizarding world for years. This focus has sadly kept fans from learning much about any of the history and lore other schools have to offer, and the vast differences that make each one unique. While there are schools scattered all across the globe, none of them stand out quite like Mahoutokoro, which Rowling once delved into in a Wizarding World post.

Japan's Mahoutokoro School Is Perfect For A Hogwarts Legacy Sequel

The wizarding lore of Hogwarts Legacy could expand well beyond that which players are familiar with through a Japanese setting. Mahoutokoro has many interesting differences that set it apart from Hogwarts and make it an engaging new environment. For one, the school is stated to have the smallest student body of any magic school, making for a much more intimate setting where a narrative could dive deeply into many characters. Mahoutokoro also begins teaching students earlier, from the age of seven, and before they begin boarding at 11 are flown home after school on giant storm petrels, which would be a great in-game experience.

Although in some ways Quidditch is a flawed sport for Hogwarts Legacy, it's still an iconic part of the wizarding universe, and there's no better school for players to get an authentic experience with the game than Mahoutokoro. The Japanese school has the strongest reputation out of every magical institution regarding Quidditch, meaning in-game segments with the sport would be incredibly intense. Their strength in academics is no different, with the school providing magical robes that change color as students grow more adept with their spells, which would be a great way to showcase players leveling up in-game.

It's still far too early to predict what's next for Hogwarts Legacy - players may be more likely to see DLC in the future than an entirely new game. Considering the release date delays Hogwarts Legacy suffered prior to launch, even if a sequel is in the works it will probably be quite a while before players hear anything about it. However, if another entry is in the cards for Hogwarts Legacy, taking students to Mahoutokoro in Japan would be a great twist.
