Word from a credible industry insider suggests Hogwarts Legacy will finally hit store shelves later this year in September, which is perfect timing in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Originally scheduled to launch in 2021, Hogwarts Legacy now boasts a 2022 release window, though recent rumors indicate the development team may need an extra year to wrap things up. An update from WarnerMedia CEO, Jason Kilar, insists the opposite is true, however, with the executive noting in a Twitter thread that the project counts among the titles slated to arrive sometime this year.

After several years of rumors and leaks, WB Games unveiled Hogwarts Legacy in 2020, teasing an open-world action RPG set many generations before Harry Potter's time. Avalanche Software is developing the adventure, having previously helmed all three entries in the Disney Infinity series. Apart from the original announcement trailer, Hogwarts Legacy has not taken center stage in quite a long while, reportedly due in part to the controversy surrounding Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling.

Over the weekend, Twitter user and leaker AccountNGT, a reliable source for Quantic Dream-related news, told fans to anticipate a September release - perhaps in time to celebrate Back to Hogwarts Day. The AccountNGT page has since been deactivated, but TheGamer reports the insider also laid out WB Games' forthcoming marketing plans for the eagerly-anticipated project. Allegedly, new details about abilities and skills may go live in a brand-new trailer as early as February. The publisher may wait to share such information during a PlayStation event that will supposedly take place in March, however. Should any of the above prove true, the leaker went on to note the trailer may finally unveil a release date.

Though it remains unsubstantiated, this new report flies in the face of recent rumors that claimed WB would delay Hogwarts Legacy to 2023. A September launch does seem fitting, though, especially since September 1 in-universe marks the day in which students return to Hogwarts after the summer holidays. Of course, fans should not get their hopes up just yet.

Unlike many of the previous games based on the Wizarding World, Hogwarts Legacy doesn't serve as a movie tie-in. Rather, the crew at Avalanche Software has crafted an original tale set in the late 19th Century, one that will allow players to create their own character and pursue the Hogwarts-set adventure on their own terms. Fans hopefully won't have long to wait to find out more on the game.
