Developer Avalanche Software has officially announced that Hogwarts Legacy has been delayed out of 2022. The highly anticipated game, set in the world of the Harry Potter series, will let players become a Hogwarts student and immerse themselves in the beloved Wizarding World. While Avalanche Software previously announced a 2022 release window for Hogwarts Legacy, the magical open-world adventure will no longer launch this year.Set in the late 1800s, Hogwarts Legacy will take players to an original version of Harry Potter's iconic School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for a unique new adventure. Players will assume the role of a fifth-year Hogwarts student who is capable of wielding an ancient and mysterious form of magic. While a goblin rebellion will drive the game's narrative, Hogwarts Legacy will also allow players to immerse themselves in the Wizarding World by attending classes, practicing new magic and exploring the school grounds at their leisure. A holiday 2022 release window was revealed by Avalanche Software back in March, and a Hogwarts Legacy art book release date previously hinted at a more specific December launch.Related: Hogwarts Legacy Dev Glitch Makes Sebastian Dance Like No One's WatchingHowever, a new Twitter post from WB Games Avalanche reveals that Hogwarts Legacy has been delayed into 2023. Giving the project its first definitive release date, Avalanche's community manager Chandler Wood reveals that Hogwarts Legacy is now set to launch on February 10, 2023. Wood explains that Avalanche needs more time to deliver the best Wizarding World experience possible in Hogwarts Legacy, necessitating the game's push into next year. The February 10, 2023 release date applies to PlayStation, Xbox and PC versions of the game, with the Nintendo Switch release date remaining a mystery.

Hogwarts Legacy Gets Delayed For More Potions & Polish

While fans are definitely eager to get their hands on the game, stiff Hogwarts Legacy broom flight gameplay shown back in July hints that the game does need more time. The exciting Harry Potter experience looks filled to the brim with engaging content, but a lack of polish also shines through in some of Avalanche's gameplay videos. Awkward animations and jittery graphics would threaten to ruin the otherwise robust Wizarding World simulation, so taking extra time to perfect the project seems like a wise decision.

Hogwarts Legacy is shaping up to be an immersive and expansive love letter to the Harry Potter franchise, and Avalanche Software is taking time to ensure the game's quality. While fans will now have to wait until early next year for the game to apparate, this delay will hopefully result in a better final product. Hogwarts Legacy may have disappeared, but the open-world wizard adventure will reveal itself soon enough.

Hogwarts Legacy will release on February 10, 2022 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
