Hogwarts Legacy, which allows players to take control of their very own student at the most famous school in Harry Potter's Wizarding World, has once again been delayed for Xbox One and PS4, now moving even further back into 2023. Unfortunately for fans that were expecting an early 2023 release, it appears developer Avalanche Software decided the last-gen version of the game needs to continue to cook just a little longer.

Some potential wizards had already been skeptical of Hogwarts Legacy's release date because of its original delay from 2021 into 2022, and then 2022 into early 2023, and this most recent delay could fuel further fears the game may have trouble keeping its current date of February 10, 2023. Players have seen quite a bit of Hogwarts Legacy's gameplay through trailers and streams at this point, and even back when it was advertising a "Holiday 2022" release date Hogwarts Legacy seemed to be coming together rather well - at least for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S owners.

Hogwarts Legacy's Switch Release Date

Although this information is obviously disappointing to PS4 and Xbox One players, this is the first time a release date for Hogwarts Legacy on the Nintendo Switch has been announced. Since sometimes Switch ports release over a year after other consoles, it's good to know a portable version of the new Harry Potter game will be releasing in 2023 - assuming the July 25 release date doesn't end up getting delayed as well.

For players looking for a handheld version of the game earlier, Hogwarts Legacy will still be releasing on Steam on February 10. Although the game is not yet confirmed to be Steam Deck verified, playing Hogwarts Legacy on Steam Deck may be the only option for portable Harry Potter gaming until at least July.

Hogwarts Legacy's last-gen push into the middle of next year undoubtedly comes as a disappointment to many, but delays of this nature have become increasingly common over the past few years, with more variables than usual needing to be taken into consideration by many studios. Whether this will be the final Hogwarts Legacy delay can't be said for certain, but at this point a firm date is more hopeful than a larger release window. With any luck, Hogwarts Legacy's release date schedule will be something fans can count on looking forward to in the new year.
