In a wizarding world that can sometimes feel a bit empty, Hogwarts Legacy's characters can breathe life into the game, but there's an underlying issue with relationship quests that sadly ruins their potential. Natsai Onai, Poppy Sweeting, and Sebastian Sallow all have this unfortunate factor in common, as do many of the other minor side characters with associated quests. However, the problem with relationship quests is the most dire when considering the three main companions in Hogwarts Legacy.

One hard-hitting letdown when it comes to Hogwarts Legacy's characters is the absence of a true follower system. Even after completing side quests for each of their fellow peers, players aren't able to take them along on any journeys through the highlands or the school. Luckily, some of Hogwarts Legacy's best mods can change that, but not every problem with Hogwarts Legacy relationship quests can be so easily fixed. There's another, more deeply fundamental issue that will forever taint these character missions.

Character Relationship Quests Happen Too Late In Hogwarts Legacy

Relationship quests in Hogwarts Legacy are introduced much too late, which makes them borderline pointless. Although the protagonist is quick to meet Natty and Sebastian during their first two lessons, they won't receive invitations for any cooperative adventures (at least consistently) until much further down the line. Poppy's case is worse, as students won't even be introduced to one of the best Hogwarts Legacy companion characters until around halfway through the main story. Especially for those who like to immerse themselves in as much exploration, puzzle-solving, and Easter egg-hunting as possible, it can potentially be dozens of hours before they ever meet up with their schoolmates outside of class.

Hogwarts Legacy Companions Might Seem Insignificant

Although Hogwarts Legacy's companions outshine Harry Potter's main characters, their delayed relationship quests can inadvertently minimize their importance to the player. After all, apart from a short visit to Hogsmeade with Sebastian or Natty, the protagonist is barely required to interact with side characters. Such is the nature of RPGs, but even witches and wizards eager to interact with the game's unique personalities might not get a chance to do so as swiftly as they'd like, since relationship quests arrive so late into the game (and can easily drown under the lengthy list of other side quests in Hogwarts Legacy, too).

Sebastian, Poppy, and Natty are some of the most enjoyable parts of the wizarding world RPG, but they deserve to receive their spotlights much sooner. Just like flying, unlocking Hogwarts Legacy relationship quests takes way too long, which ends up underutilizing one of the game's strongest assets. The companion character narratives are some of the game's most impactful parts of Hogwarts Legacy's story, but they need more time to reach their full potential. Some players might not develop a connection with these lovable side characters at all - which could lead to a nearly soulless experience in the otherwise captivating world of Hogwarts Legacy.
