One of the first things that players learn as they begin their school term is that Headmaster Black has canceled Quidditch in Hogwarts Legacy - but as it turns out, his decision is not only unpopular with the student body, but it's entirely dishonest too. It's clear that not even Black is fully confident in his lackluster excuse of a "student injury;" he refuses to elaborate, and he becomes defensive at the subject's mere mention, threatening to forbid flying altogether. Luckily, sharp-eyed students can discover the real reason why Headmaster Black canceled Quidditch through a small, secret detail in Hogwarts Legacy.

The absence of the beloved wizarding world sport took Harry Potter fans by surprise, but with the recent announcement of Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, it looks like they will be able to go against Black's word and try their hand anyway. The game, which has already entered its play testing phase, will let players test their Quidditch skills against others in a competitive, multiplayer setting. However, Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions is a standalone game, meaning it won't be a part of the RPG's distinct world, and it won't explain why Phineas Black actually canceled Quidditch in Hogwarts Legacy.

Why Quidditch Is Canceled In Hogwarts Legacy

A Hogwarts Legacy note detailing a student's minor injuries, with several lines of information redacted by Headmaster Black.

Hogwarts Legacy's Quidditch season was indeed canceled due to an accident on the field, but a note found in the Hospital Wing paints the so-called injury as a mere scapegoat for a much darker motive. Even through lines of redacted information, it's clear that the nurse who wrote the report found the incident perplexing (and immensely frustrating), as in actuality, the Quidditch player was barely harmed. More suspiciously, she makes note of the fact that Headmaster Black was more concerned over their pure-blood status, implying that this was the main factor behind the sport's impending ban.

The Black Family Is Notorious In Harry Potter Lore

The Black family tree depicted a tapestry in Harry Potter.

Headmaster Black's wrongful reasoning for canceling Quidditch is unfortunately behavior typical of the Black family, who in Harry Potter were infamous for their obsession with wealth and relentless discrimination towards muggle-borns. It remains unclear what exactly happened to the Quidditch player, but the details are ultimately insignificant, as it's likely that even the smallest of mishaps would have prompted this reaction out of Headmaster Black, who is obsessed with furthering his family's toxic ideals of pure-blood supremacy at any cost.

Being blatantly prejudiced, but making cowardly attempts to hide it nonetheless, it's no surprise that the man is wildly unpopular across the school's population. Although he tries to appear concerned for the health of his students, the real reason why Headmaster Black canceled Quidditch was to preserve his family's corrupt beliefs about pure-blood witches and wizards. It's true that Phineas Black is related to Sirius, but not even his connection with the lovable Harry Potter character could redeem him or his dreadfully telling justification for canceling Quidditch in Hogwarts Legacy.
