New details on the upcoming Hogwarts Legacy have revealed how it will use PlayStation 5's DualSense controller to offer an immersive Wizarding World experience, but the features seem to punish left-handed players. Warner Bros. Games and Avalanche Software have been ramping up marketing for the highly anticipated Harry Potter spin-off title, releasing new game details and even an ASMR video for Hogwarts Legacy's atmospheric world.

It seems like information about Hogwarts Legacy has been pouring in since its official gameplay trailer and breakdown earlier this year. There looks to be plenty of selling points for the highly-ambitious title, including stunning new-gen graphics, a sprawling open-world, and a charming, magical narrative. One of the most appealing aspects of the game, however, is surely its customization and personalization options, as Hogwarts Legacy players can create their own character and develop them through traditional RPG mechanics and cosmetics. Players can even choose which Hogwarts House their wizard or witch is part of, allowing for unique role-playing opportunities and access to exclusive content like dormitories. Additionally, Hogwarts Legacy will present unexpected moral choices, which will likely serve to further develop the game's protagonist as each player sees fit.

Given all these customization features, some may find it strange that Hogwarts Legacy appears to be lacking consideration for left-handed players on PS5. A recent post on the PlayStation Blog outlines a number of new details regarding the upcoming game and how it will utilize the PS5's DualSense controller in order to emulate the feeling of really holding a wand. However, it seems these features will exclude left-handed witches and wizards, as according to the post, certain haptic effects will be isolated to the right side of the controller. The post explains:

"Spells will feel unique when you cast them, thanks to haptic feedback providing a direct connection between the DualSense controller and your wand. We’ve specifically isolated these effects to the right side of the controller to let the DualSense become an extension of the wand you hold in the game."

There is no mention of left-handed players or whether there will be an option to swap the controller's haptic feedback locus.

The Hogwarts Legacy post is certainly strange, as it almost reads as though Avalanche Software forgot about left-handed players entirely. Hogwarts Legacy has many secrets, and it seems that the game has been paid a generally high attention to detail, which makes this apparent omission even odder. It isn't as though the Hogwarts Legacy protagonist is a set-in-stone, predetermined character; players customize the main character at the start of the game, so there's little reason they should be locked into right-hand dominance.

Perhaps it is Hogwarts Legacy's ambition and broad scope that has led to this discrepancy, as developers at Avalanche Software may very well have simply forgotten to include a left-handed option in the game (or even just in the write-up for the PlayStation Blog). Hopefully, if not already included, it will be an easy fix to include the option to switch to left-handed orientation for Hogwarts Legacy players on PS5.
