The content and story in Hogwarts Legacy is so well done that it is easy to wish it could go on forever, but there is only so much that a student can learn in one year of school, at least without becoming exceptionally overpowered, so there is a maximum level cap in the game. Once a character reaches that max level in Hogwarts Legacy they can still continue to play, but will not be able to receive any additional talent points. However, most players will not reach max level until they are working on the endgame content.

Hogwarts Legacy is a big game with lots to keep players busy. Between the main storyline and all the fun side adventures and areas to explore, the developers have put a lot of time and energy into making sure it is an exciting experience. Having a level cap prevents a character from becoming too overpowered which can make the game too easy and generally not fun anymore, but thankfully it will take quite a while before players can reach the max level in Hogwarts Legacy.

In Hogwarts Legacy's Max Level Cap Is 40

As with other RPGs, players gain experience points when defeating enemies or when they complete tasks and quests, and these experience points enable the character to level up and get stronger throughout the game. In order to start the final quest of the main storyline, a character must have reached level 37 to ensure fighting the final Hogwarts Legacy enemies will not be impossible. The max level in Hogwarts Legacy is level 40, but this doesn't mean the game has to end, only that there will no longer be any levels gained and additional talent points to spend.

Hogwarts Legacy's Max Level Caps Means 35 Talent Points To Spend

Leveling up in Hogwarts Legacy is how players get access to the talent points which can be used to unlock new skills or upgrade their spells. This is the key factor in Hogwarts Legacy's max level as there will not be enough talent points for a player to fully invest in every area, which would require a total of 48 points rather than the 35 which can be earned. Currently, there is no way to respec talents once they have been chosen, so players must choose wisely when assigning their points. Researching how to make the best choices for talent builds is not a bad idea.

Capping the maximum level at 40 in Hogwarts Legacy makes sense with its open-world feel and the ability to do lots of side quests. Otherwise, it could be too simple for a character to become overpowered which would take away from the fun and challenge of the game itself. Not being able to fully fill in the talent tree could be frustrating for some, and hopefully, the developers will add a way to reassign talent points when players are not happy with their builds. In the meantime, players should just sit back and enjoy playing through the content the game offers, while choosing carefully where to assign their points.
