Hogwarts Legacy will undoubtedly feature a plethora of magical spells from the Harry Potter books and films, but the most deadly spell, known by its incantation, Avada Kedavra, or more commonly as the Killing Curse, likely won't be included. Set in the Harry Potter universe in the 1800s, long before the events of the modern series, players will assume the role of a young wizard or witch that has just received a late acceptance letter to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It will be up to the player to choose their own path and define their legacy, a task that will be accomplished through the specific choices of the individual.

Hogwarts Legacy appears to be a very ambitious game. Developed by Avalanche Software, the game will feature an accurate recreation of the castle (shifting staircases included) as well as the grounds that surround the school. Iconic locations such as the Forbidden Forest, Hogsmeade Village, and Diagon Alley will all be accessible to players throughout their journey in Hogwarts Legacy.

Avalanche has made it clear that choice will play a big role in the upcoming Harry Potter-inspired titleNot only will players be able to create and customize their character in Hogwarts Legacy, but they will also be able to determine the path they walk in terms of good vs. evil. Players will have a variety of combat-oriented spells at their disposal to engage fellow witches and wizards as well as the beasts found throughout the realm. However, there is one forbidden curse that is unlikely to be wielded by players.

The Avada Kedavra Curse Likely Will Not Be Available To Players

The three unforgivable curses in the Harry Potter series make their initial appearance in the fourth book, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. The first of the curses, the Cruciatus Curse, inflicts unbearable pain upon the victim, sometimes even sending the inflicted into a permanent state of shock. The second, the Imperius Curse, grants the attacker total control over the victim to the point where every single command must be obeyed. The third and most lethal curse in the Harry Potter canon and history of Hogwarts, the Avada Kedavra Curse, kills the victim instantly.

Allowing players to harness the power of a guaranteed one-hit KO on any living organism in Hogwarts Legacy wouldn't provide much of a challenge. However, it is still possible that the Avada Kedavra Curse could make an appearance in the game either in some type of boss battle or perhaps even through a cutscene. The Avada Kedavra Curse plays a crucial role in the events of the Harry Potter series, so it wouldn't be surprising to at least see some references to it in Hogwarts Legacy.

The future looks promising for Avalanche Software's title, especially considering this is the longest amount of time the studio has ever spent developing a single game. Hogwarts Legacy is set to release in 2022 (after a delay from 2021) on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X with no set launch date confirmed. Harry Potter fans are eager to jump into the wizarding world of Hogwarts Legacy, and rightfully so, as the game looks like one of the most promising Harry Potter games thus far. With more information set to release in the coming months, it won't be long until players find out everything this ambitious title has to offer.
