In Hogwarts Legacy, players can create a personalized character with which they'll explore the secrets of the castle and its surrounding lands, but the customization menu is missing two crucial features that would make Hogwarts Legacy's character creation much more effective. These options have long been available in RPGs, with titles as old as The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim taking care to include them. This makes their absence in Portkey Games' latest release especially odd, and it actively harms the player's experience.

Thankfully, most character customization options in Hogwarts Legacy are conversely quite expansive. The convenient transmog system, which allows students to dress themselves however they please without sacrificing stats or perks, has ensured that players are able to express themselves (at least in 1890s fashion). Wand customization has minimal impact on gameplay too, but it features an endless number of combinations. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for Hogwarts Legacy's character creation menu, which leaves a lot to be desired.

Hogwarts Legacy Doesn't Let Players Change Their Nose Or Mouth Shape

In Hogwarts Legacy, customizing nose and mouth shape is not currently possible. Despite these features being an integral part of anyone's face (and by extension, identity), the only way players can change them is by selecting one of the few default character models and working from there. While this does provide some amount of variety and personalization, it's impossible to combine the nose of one character model with the mouth of another. These limitations in Hogwarts Legacy's character creation can feel frustrating and out of place, especially among the many options that are offered for face shape, eye color, and hairstyle.

Why Hogwarts Legacy's Character Customization Is So Important

A Hogwarts Legacy character wearing an eccentric outfit, with goggles that have mismatched lenses, a diamond-patterned teal top hat, a brown, ornately patterned scarf, a royal blue vest, and a bight yellow Hufflepuff school robe.

Character customization in RPGs is taken quite seriously, and no exceptions are made for Hogwarts Legacy, wherein players creatively name their characters, customize their wands, and choose their outfits. However, it can all feel in vain if the player doesn't end up looking as they intended - especially for those who aimed to insert themselves into the wizarding world. In this way, Hogwarts Legacy's lack of customization for the nose and mouth, as minor of a flaw as it may seem, can substantially harm immersion: a critical issue in any role-playing game.

For now, players will unfortunately have to make do with the slim pickings they've been offered. The game has already amassed a sizable modding community, which might eventually be able to offer some semblance of a solution to this problem. Until then, though, the lack of mouth and nose customization in Hogwarts Legacy remains one of its biggest mistakes, and witches and wizards can only hope that these much-needed details make their way into the character creation menu in the near future.
