Only Murders in the Building returned for its second season with a new mystery and more of the same charm and quirk that made the first one so successful. The show said goodbye to some characters and welcomed a few new ones, but they kept their main trio intact.

The show's characters have distinct and unique personalities, so it should be easy enough for the Sorting Hat to place them into their Hogwarts Houses. It's a shame that crossover will probably never materialize, because the idea of Oliver Putnam at Hogwarts is a comedy of disasters waiting to happen.

Alice Banks - Gryffindor

Alice talking to Mabel in Only Murders in the Building season 2

Cara Delevingne joins the hit show as Alice Banks, an artist with an immediate and suspicious interest in Mabel. The two seem to be developing a romantic relationship, but fans know they can't trust anyone in a mystery show. Alice's intentions might be genuine, but it's too soon to tell.

Alice's bold approach to getting things makes her an ideal candidate for Gryffindor House. She's unafraid to go after what she wants and has a fiery and daring personality. She also seems somewhat impulsive but is approachable enough to quickly earn other people's trust.

Cinda Canning - Slytherin

Nine-time Emmy winner Tina Fey plays Cinda Canning, the host of a famous true-crime podcast and an idol of Charles, Oliver, and Mabel. Fey returns as Canning for another guest sting on Only Murders season 2, conducting her own real-time investigation into Bunny's murder and the investigation surrounding the main trio.

Canning represents some of the worst sides of a Slytherin. She is opportunistic, treacherous, ambitious, and unafraid to use those around her to further her agenda. Cinda is cutthroat in her pursuit of success, determined to achieve it no matter who she has to crush to get it.

Detective Williams - Hufflepuff

Detective Williams looking annoyed in Only Murders in the Building

Only Murders is one of the best shows on Hulu because of how memorable and compelling its characters are. Detective Williams is the perfect example; she's someone who isn't a part of every episode but still enriches the plot thanks to her no-nonsense and cynical approach to mystery-solving.

Detective Williams is one of those characters who prove the Hogwarts House system's flaws. She is someone who doesn't fit any one House; her personality is a combination of many emotions and behaviors. She shows enough traits to make perfect sense in both Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw; however, she might make more sense in the House of the badger, thanks to her hardworking and practical attitude.

Teddy Dimas - Slytherin

Three-time Tony Award winner Nathan Lane plays Teddy Dimas, the wealthy owner of a chain of delis and the podcast's sponsor. He covered Theo's murder of Zoe, exhibiting a chilling new side to his otherwise amiable and passive persona.

Like any other Slytherin, Teddy is meticulous, calculating, and always prepared. He's one step ahead of everyone, allowing him to execute his plans and get away with them. Teddy successfully covered Theo's crime for ten years, pricing himself as one of the most intelligent characters in Only Murders in the Building.

Leonora Folger - Ravenclaw

The Apartment's Shirley MacLaine in Only Murders in the Building

Academy Award winner Shirley McClaine makes her Only Murders debut in season 2, playing Leonora Folger, Bunny's mother. Leonora holds more secrets than she lets on, including the identity of mysterious painter Rose Cooper -- although experienced fans of the mystery genre might already guess the artist's secret.

Leonora is a Ravenclaw at heart. She's an observer, capable of analyzing and declaring Charles, Oliver, and Mabel's innocence at first sight while correctly guessing they know more than they're revealing. Leonora is an original, much like artist Rose Cooper, making her an ideal candidate for the House of the eagle.

Jan Bellows - Slytherin

Jan smiles while wearing a red blouse in Only Murders in the Building.

Played by Academy Award nominee Amy Ryan, Jan is a professional bassoonist and Charles' love interest. Fans of Only Murders should remember that Jan is Tim's killer, committing the crime after their romantic affair ended. Jan ends the season on her way to prison, but she'll return in season 2.

Jan isn't a Slytherin because she's evil; she's a Slytherin because she's cunning, meticulous, highly intelligent, selfish, and resourceful. She is also remorseless and capable of going to the extreme to get away with her crime. After all, Jan tried to kill everyone living in the Arconia; she would fit right in with the Death Eaters.

Oscar Torres - Hufflepuff

Aaron Dominguez plays Oscar, Mabel's friend and future love interest, who spent years in prison after being wrongly accused of Zoe's murder. He and Mabel explore their feelings for each other throughout season 1 but decide to remain friends; it seems like he'll be absent from season 2.

Oscar is a Hufflepuff. He is caring and loyal, wanting to support Mabel in her quest despite putting himself at risk. He is also very open-minded -- a trait not everyone gives Hufflepuff enough credit for --, going along with Mabel, Charles, and Oliver's shenanigans without complaining.

Mabel Mora - Ravenclaw

Selena Gomez gives her best performance to date as Mabel, the cynical and sarcastic youngest member of the leading trio. Because of her traumatic past, Mabel has trouble trusting other people, although she opens up thanks to her friendship with Charles and Oliver.

Mabel is an original; she's individualistic, artistic, witty, and introspective. In short, she's a Ravenclaw. Mystery shows have several familiar tropes, and the accomplished amateur is one of the most prevalent; Mabel is Only Murders' resident skillful sleuth. She could've solved Tim's murder alone, but she was wise enough to welcome Charles and Oliver's help, admitting she could get to the bottom of the mystery faster if she worked with them.

Oliver Putnam - Gryffindor

Oliver walking down the street and smiling in Only Murders in the Building.

Oliver Putnam is a drama queen. Played to perfection by two-time Emmy winner Martin Short, Oliver is a theater director and the mastermind behind the podcast. Vain and slightly delusional, Oliver walks a fine line between flamboyance and absurdity.

An avid fan of the spotlight, Oliver loves being the hero. He is everything a Gryffindor is but would probably never admit. Oliver lives for the attention; he is playful and daring, especially if it means getting his way, but also passionate about his friends and those he loves. Oliver is also selfish, a quality many Gryffindors have but try to either control or outright suppress.

Charles-Haden Savage - Hufflepuff

Charles-Haden Savage talking to someone in Only Murders in the Building Season 2

Emmy Award-winner Steve Martin plays Charles-Haden Savage, a shy and socially-awkward semi-retired actor and the star of the hit 1990s detective drama Brazzos. He is the straight man of the trio, patiently dealing with Mabel's sarcasm and Oliver's over-the-top antics.

Like the bravest Hufflepuffs in Harry Potter, Charles is always willing to risk everything for his loved ones. He is kind and dependable, although far less abrupt than his two companions. However, Charles remains determined to solve the mystery, both out of interest but also concern for his friends. Season 2 shows him trusting and defending Mabel, proving his caring attitude.
