A new photo from Hocus Pocus 2 shows the Sanderson sisters reuniting with their beloved spellbook. Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy brought their witchy alter egos Winifred, Sara, and Mary Sanderson back from the dead for the highly-anticipated sequel to Disney's classic Halloween 1993 flick Hocus Pocus. The movie completed production across a fabricated Salem set on Rhode Island in early 2022, with Anne Fletcher (The Proposal) at the helm and other returning cast members like Doug Jones (Billy Butcherson) on board.
Picking up 29 years after its predecessor, Hocus Pocus 2 follows Salem high school students Becca (Whitney Peak), Cassie (Lilia Buckingham), and Izzy (Belissa Escobedo) as they learn of a tradition where witches receive magical abilities on their 16th birthday. Mayhem ensues when they light the Black Flame Candle and inadvertently awaken the Sanderson Sisters. The sequel also welcomes stars like Ted Lasso's Hannah Waddingham and Sam Richardson into the magical world. Audiences got their first look at the upcoming movie when the Hocus Pocus 2 trailer dropped.
As the release date creeps closer, more glimpses of Hocus Pocus 2 are surfacing. Popular fan account Hocus Pocus Guide shared a new photo of the Sanderson sisters reuniting with their beloved spell book inside their old cottage, which has been transformed into a magic shop in the sequel. The wicked trio gathers around a table filled with Sanderson Sister merchandise as they plot over the iconic book. Check out the image below:
The photo seems to be a still from the actual film, showing the Midler, Parker, and Najimy in full Sanderson mode. Sarah's bewilderment, Mary's crooked grin, and Winifred's flamboyant intensity are all present in the picture. With their grimoire or "booook," as Winifred calls it, spread open on the table, they're fixing to do some magic. Winifred appears to be leading her sisters in their maleficent endeavors as usual.
Though the Hocus Pocus 2 trailer previously showed viewers what the spell book looks like with a 2022 CGI touch, this is one of the first images capturing the Sanderson sisters using it. Having their cottage turned into a gift shop, which reps items for Sanderson fans, is a hilarious space to find the sisters in. In an intelligent sense, it will also seamlessly advertise the collection of Hocus Pocus 2 merch Disney has in store, which no doubt resembles certain items from the film. Of course, audiences will have to wait until the movie drops on September 30 to know for sure.
